I haven’t seen that style of insole before with an outline like that, sure they’re Birks?

Much discussed around here, seems to be a lot of derision towards him. He doesn’t claim to be a shoe/boot expert and has a bias against the use of synthetic materials in construction.
I appreciate seeing what’s inside and how some makers depend on old reputations rather than quality construction.
He also cuts up non leather shoes but I put those in a different category. -

I dropped out the conversation here when I realised my dozens of leather shoes are unworn 364 days per year.
Wasn’t sold on his videos but the cutaway construction shots were worth it.

I don't have dozens, but the handful I have mostly loose out because my feet just prefer cushioning.

have you tried doing a reverse image search for these?

I googled 'Birkenstock Mary Jane' (as that is what I think the strap arrangement and cut gets called) and found these - appear to be the same and made by Papillio (Soles by Birkenstock)
Otherwise Birkenstock 'Paris' are kind of similar

With regard to the ESD footbed on the Birkenstocks. What are the benefits?

Good when you work with electronics and stuff, no? Stops you from building up static charge iirc

I'm looking for some leather loafers - my go to are Alden unlined penny loafers. I want something similar but black leather. Any suggestions?

Cheaney do some lovely calf leather penny loafers. Really soft and not too shiny

Hard to find in the UK, but I got a pair of these off ebay earlier this year. IMO no better casual loafers other than JM Weston 180s of they're £££

my wife is in Paris this week, so will ask her to take a look. They're not too chunky?
-

I don't think so. But if you don't want chunky they do a think soled version

Pure golf club gold, off on a trip to the French Riviera. Have been contemplating Hereu slingbacks or woven loafers, any other suggestions?

Hereu slingbacks
Are these comfortable? Or is that not the point?

Looking for something a bit more dressy, for restaurants with a smart/chic dress code but when the weather is over 30 centigrade.

Super comfy, my wife has a few of their shoes and sandals which have never needed breaking in. Unlike my first pair of Birkenstocks which broke me in, pulled and strained every tendon but have subsequently all fitted like a glove.

They're not my vibe but if you like them go for it.
I usually wear espadrilles - I know people say spending money on these is silly but I have a couple of nice suede pairs, one which can be worn backless which I like.
Unlined moccasin, boat shoes or loafers are also other options. I know crepe sole on a boat shoe is maybe a bit lol but I like the Anglo Italian ones
I have these Yukten moccasin's which are super comfyThe loro piana style loafers are also a potential shout if you like that look.
all this talk of birkenstocks - anyone know the model name for these?
