  • Best/cheapest way to buy paper aeropress filters? Not after a reusable one.

  • Do you have a local good coffee shop? They usually have them.

  • Tip can of chickpeas into a pan with 1/2-2/3 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda, and boil for 10-15 mins. It really helps to break down the skins. If you want to soften the garlic flavour peel it and throw it in with the chickpeas while boiling. Blend the chickpeas while still warm. I often think it’s easy to go wrong using too much strongly flavoured olive oil, so often use a light neutral olive oil for mouth feel and a little extra virgin oil to add a little extra flavour. Of course salt, tahini and lemon juice.

  • AeroPress Clear!

and a larger AeroPress is supposedly on its way and there is going to be a ''premium'' one made of metal and glass (sounds like a terrible idea). Finally, they have done away with the coffee chute, the filter holder, and only give you 100 filter papers now (boo)

  • Feels like something where stains will be more visible.

I probably haven't used mine in 10 odd years. In fact one of the last times I can remember was at work (in the days before companies left fruit everywhere and had nespresso machines kicking about). I left a coffee puck on a plate in the kitchen and one colleague told another colleague that there was a brownie there for her. She was so excited and took a big old mouthful of ground coffee.

    Sorry Gemma.

  • Hoffman already has a video about the clear - didn’t stain.

  • I was just watching the video as I refreshed the page and was thinking "hold on, what about temperature..."

And then he said, "I'm sure some of you are thinking, 'hold on, what about temperature'"

    And dammit he was right.

  • Andrew Wilkinson said one of the things he loved about Aeropress was that it just did one thing. And since his company acquired it they’ve just added loads of stuff. 🤷‍♂️

  • I mean, I definitely love the fact that Alan Adler basically did the best frisbee ever and the aeropress (I know he's done loads of other stuff). Two absolute game changers.

  • Yeah and he refused to sell it for ages apparently then one day called and asked Andrew if he still wanted to buy it

  • Didn’t know Aeropress had been sold. Taking the big money buy out - lovely stuff. I’d be putting my trotters up in Nice.

  • Just arrived. Much excite.

  • That a fancy water purifier too? What grinder did you go for in the end or still tbd?

  • I got the Niche flat burr grinder, although I’ll be using the Kinu hand grinder until the Niche turns up.

The Marzocco rep says the app for the Linea Mini might brick the machine, so his advice is not to install it!

  • Looks super, super tidy! Love the matching knockbox. Madness about the app.

  • Did anyone go for the recent Timemore grinderz on Kickstarter?

I went for the 078s and they’ve taken money so I am (naively) expecting it to turn up soon

  • I did but I think best to not hold ones breath

  • The LM at home app should work. Identifies the machines fine?

  • Should be a nice Christmas present

  • shipping 'end of july' they say

  • Just saw that! I hopefully stand corrected

  • I YOLO'd it and downloaded the app, it works fine. I even updated the firmware on the machine as "danger" is my middle name, and that was ok too.

Some thoughts on the machine as I've used it a few times now.

It's interesting to use because it does the same thing, every time (or insofar as I can tell).

What this means is that you can tell the difference between knocking the portafilter on the tamping matt to settle the grounds, vs stirring them with the end of a teaspoon to distribute them.

I'm using the inbuilt shot timer and then checking the expresso on my scales, aiming (for a somewhat arbitrary) 28 second extraction giving 28g of liquid from 14g of beans.

There's a huge variance available with the same grind, but different approach to puck formation, which is really interesting (to me).

The other interesting factor is that my old lever machine was much less sensitive - it would produce basically the same shot time after time, impervious to any differences in priming the portafilter.

This means that the new machine is more fun, in many ways, as it presents a raft of new challenges. I will be glad when my grinder arrives, as the hand-grinder is a bit of a chore.

  • Get one of these:

Accept no substitute (and definitely not a teaspoon)

  • I have a distribution tool- it’s in a container ship steaming through the Med (just off the coast of Libya currently).

Moving country has been very expensive so I’m trying not to duplicate stuff.

  • And the drink? What is that like?

Am asking as i only have access to cheap not very taste of anything instant for the next week.
