I'm still on this: https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/model/7d7b3c8 it replaced something very similar.
It was one of their pro colour calibrated things... it's still pretty much perfect and just trucking on.

Occasionally I look at replacements... but it works, and I can't see the point in replacing something that works perfectly.
Would a 10-bit display be nice? Perhaps.
4k? Doesn't feel necessary, I'm not that close to the screen that I see pixels.
Thunderbolt? Coped without out, not going to change much for me.
A nice stand? I use a VESA mount on the desk, so not necessary.I just can't find a compelling reason to replace it.
Perhaps the only reason to replace it is that the current generation of IPS displays is probably the best it will ever be in that investment is now aimed at OLED displays. OLED isn't quite there yet but will be in a few years, but the current backlist IPS is probably as good as it gets... so this year and next is probably the time to buy a monitor for the next decade. But that's not so compelling a reason that I'd do it.

I think I'll wait until OLED matures then replace this one with whatever the pinnacle of IPS is.
The funny backwards logic out of this is as with all the tech, I've always been reticent to upgrade as I'm a cheapskate/indecisive and frankly, I don't feel particularly left out.
4k is very much tempting, but in Photographic terms, it makes very little difference on screen VS print, so it's always felt a little pointless.
I've always been on VESA, so all else being equal, I reckon my eyes are shite enough that I'll just trust my wallet and spend the money on a nicer chair. -

The best I found that might tempt me is this https://www.asus.com/uk/displays-desktops/monitors/proart/proart-display-pa27ucx-k/
But it's over a grand... and frankly it doesn't tempt me that much.

How do multiple desktops work on a single monitor? Does it have a kind of snap function?
-
• #8758
He means desktop workspaces, so a gesture will flip to another desktop... you still have your 27" or whatever real estate, but imagine it being 5 times wider than the physical screen and you being able to slide a part into view.

I like ultrawide. I've got 34"3440 x 1440 which is about the sweet spot I reckon.
Prefer it to dual monitors as you can have something directly in front of you with no bezel and it's ideal for very wide spreadsheets.
I normally have either two things as if it's a dual monitor or three things (one either side and slightly bigger in the middle).

Can't get my head around this so will youtube it. But thank you.

Are you physically resizing them to that point or is software doing it automatically? I wonder if a game would play in one side and a browser would open in another? Does the monitor/OS somehow compartmentalise them?

I'm all 49, which is basically 2 x 27" side by side.
It's not for everyone, but it suits my workflow perfectly - and means I don't need 3 monitors to achieve it.
Its probably down to having way too many monitors in the office since I started work.

24" was the sweet spot for 1080p pixel density and 27" is the sweet for 1440p.
I have a 27" 1440p running at 165hz and it's perfect for me.
I have another 60hz one for my secondary and a 3rd 24" 1080p (but I only use that for work)All mounted with ergotron LX arms

The fuuuuuuuuuck you do that requires that much real estate?
My current home office setup involves, from left to right, a 27" monitor in landscape format, a 32" in landscape, and 2 27" monitors in portrait. I do occasionally fire up my laptop to provide a 5th screen as well. Can't have too much monitorage.

I have one of these, and coupled with a USB wireless mouse and keyboard is my requirement for maintaining all my little headless machines during setup or if they have issues.

Windows automatically snaps to the sides or the corners or top/bottom to do halves or quarters (either by dragging or keyboard shortcut).
For the triple I use power toys (free Microsoft addin) which allows you to set default zones however you like.

But DO I want a pair of 27" screens? My reasoning is so I can have editing software (realistically PUBG) on one screen and a script/brief/email/research whatever on the other
Going back to your original question, I don't think buying two new identical monitors makes any sense these days. Just buy a bigger one.

The power toys zone thing is great. I aslonlike the wherethefuckismymouse add-on.

Can't ever have too much monitor.

If you like power toys zones, i3wm (or another tiling window manager) on Linux will set your world alight!

This seems like what I'm after. Watching some videos to figure it out. Thanks
Many spreadsheets and lots of documents / presentations.
So much easier compiling when you can have thing side by side.
I have 5 desktops on my Mac:
That way I can move between the workspaces with the forward / back buttons on my mouse.
