  • Incredible chase by Australia.. fuck

55 runs remaining, on the ropes we thought, then bang bang bang

  • Tootle pip mofos!

  • Nice timing @hippy

  • Fair play Cummins and Lyon. Incredible partnership.

  • I had shit to do hours ago. I don't even like Test cricket.

  • Rarely if ever have I felt like we lost it rather than been beaten by the aussies, so many missed chances, hey ho, on to the next.

  • Yeah, on the one hand we were a good number of missed catches, poor shots and questionable decisions away from being quite comfortable. But on the other, can’t see Smith and Labushane scoring as few runs as they did this test.

  • the win needle was back and forth all afternoon Eng < - > Aus less so on a draw.

It’ll go down as a classic test match,

    check out these batting stats

    Khawaja at the crease
    796 minutes
    141 runs (321)
    65 runs (197)

from the first ball to the last so enthralling.. if at any time this pm, it was rained off, cricket fans would have been robbed.

  • It was a classic no doubt, just a sickener.

Interesting to see where we go with selection, the Moeen experiment failed, really need to pick a proper spinner and Foakes needs to come back but it'll be the same team in the next match I reckon.

  • Moeen bowled OK I reckon, should keep his place if finger is OK

Bairstow missed chances but scored vital runs. I would pick Foakes but we know how McCullum and Stokes think. The one change will be Wood for Anderson

  • Exciting finish. We were due to get on the wrong end of one at sometime.
Can't wait for the next test.

  • Moeen didn't bowl well, we were lucky that the aussies didn't take him on more, if his finger is OK stokes will have to stick with him anyway.

8 days until the next test so I'd be amazed if Jimmy was dropped, third test would be the one to rest him as its 4 days after the lord's test.

  • Catches win matches. Bring in Foakes!

  • Too quick to judge Bairstow.

2nd match after serious injury,. Hell get better with more time. Everyone will.

Great match. A classic Ozball vs Bazball. Classic cricket vs this aporoach

    Will be a riveting series

  • Cigarette paper between the teams. Earlier mistakes cost England here. Could easily have gone the other way. Khawaja head and shoulders the best player across both teams - if he'd been on the losing side, it would have been cruel luck. Cummins excellent with the ball in the second innings. Root very good again for England. Stokes loves those magic moments. Broad on fire is a sight to behold. Lots of others looked like bags of nerves until Cummins stepped up at the end. Great game and what an advert for Test Cricket.

    Can't wait for Lord's.

  • Great game and what an advert for Test Cricket.

Goes for almost every match since Stoke's captaincy

  • There was a moment on the TMS commentary yesterday:

Paraphrase: "It's a rainy Tuesday and Edgbaston has been completely full all day. Bring the heads of any international cricket organisation here and show them what Test cricket can be like."

    Totally true.

It's a disgrace when this game, at this level, is played to an empty arena.

  • I'm going to NYC next month and am going to go to a baseball game at Yankees stadium, one evening, for the experience.

I've asked a few people what to expect and the main answer is "it's a long game, so be prepared for it to be boring"

Well, this game was five days, approximately 30 hours, long. With not a single boring moment.

  • It's a disgrace when this game, at this level, is played to an empty arena.

The Ashes should be on terrestrial TV too.

  • Bizarrely my 14yo son hates bazball. He thinks they aren't respecting the game or taking it seriously - his view is if you want to smash it around and dance down the pitch to get stumped then do that in T20.

I think this is because he hasn't lived through the decades of dross, boredom and depression that the rest of us have had to.

  • Word.
Didn't it used to be one of the 'crown jewels'?

  • Live cricket on terrestrial channels, would be so good for everyone up and down the country from homes, cafes, pubs.

Instead of the daily vomit of TV listings

  • Our son has started cricket lessons on a Saturday morning. 1.5 hours of good quality coaching that he really enjoys - and it's free up to the age of 9. Great for us, but a sign of how desperate cricket is for new blood, because kids don't get to see it unless you seek it out and pay bigtime for it*.

*or get a hooky stick for £50 a year, which we definitely don't do
