Question - is fixed gear riding any worse for post Achilles injury/issues?
I actually had only just been doing a bit of riding lately and that’s been fixed as I can keep the fixed gear bike in a hallway without causing obstruction to the pram. I think the way I skid-brake is probably stressy to that tendon (right leg and skid uni-dextrously with that leg forward).
Anyway, I’m not going to immediately be doing fixed skids the moment I can get on a bike. Will probably recuperate with just walking and swimming, which I’m completely fine with, and leave the cycling for quite some time - until I at least feel that I can clip in/out without soreness.
Refereed myself at Whipps today - only took 6 hours lol. The surgeon I spoke to was pretty relaxed about it being about 6-8 weeks until I’m back to relative normality. Currently I’m just praying for the first day I can stand unaided, let alone walk. Hopefully that is something like a few weeks 🙏
Next is another appointment to figure out if I need the op or just move onto the boot. Suspect it will be op, though.

Anecdotally I find riding bikes/fixie doesn’t stress the Achilles much at all, unless you’re doing some serious climbs or high watt activity but even then it’s always been negligible compared to running.
It was running that broke me and running that continues to cause relapses, any plyometric or explosive use of the calve.
Fingers crossed for you mate, take it well easy on the recovery as I think some of my issue is scar tissue from repeated injury so patience is everything.
Yikes, GWS.
I was going to say as a long term achilles sufferer that don’t underestimate the recovery. Have you got a diagnosis?
