All software should respect my OS-level locale settings - unless there's a very good reason.
(Edit: now I'm not sure if any OSs include physical units in locale... 😬)
(Edit 2: and there are good reasons to work in the actual units used to define physical output anyway - as I found when I used to do work for output in the US)

Because all software is written by or for 'merkins. There should be a setting somewhere to show metric units
