  • Yep, need to farm LOADS of zonaite to upgrade the battery to make things like flamethrowers last. They break quickly when fused with weapons, but seem to last indefinitely when attached to say a horse harness... Hint nudge. Have made several chariots with blades on the wheels and flamethrowers/lasers spraying sideways.

Also lose the lasers/flame emitters and just drive around long grass with spinning blades = mobile hylian rice farm.

  • upgrade the battery

Again, another thing I was completely unaware of. I think the combo of playing the tutorial between 12-4am, and completely avoiding any TotK coverage (outside of this thread) for fear of spoilers has left me missing some crucial bits about how the game works!

It wasn't until a few shrines in (after finishing the equivalent of The Great Plateau section from BotW), that I realised that you could rotate the pieces that you lift. Really need to RTFM...

    Crazy creation in ToTK
    (If you have enough batteries)

  • I'm already looking forward to my next play through. Crossing my fingers that there's a Master Mode DLC planned

  • @HatBeard think you're spot on with Jedi Survivor. It's such a mediocre game. I really wanted to like it, but it's so pale.

How they keep making lightsaber games that require so many hits I just can't understand.

Was it jedi academy all those years ago where it was true one hit kills, both for you and enemies?

  • Alright fine, you lot can stop going on about how great it is now - I've caved and bought a Switch and TotK.
Never played anything Zelda before. What next?
Do I buy the Nintendo online thing. Looks like yes. What else?

  • I would play Breath of the Wild first if you haven't played it, then Totk.

Mario Odyssey is the next best game on the platform

  • I would play Breath of the Wild first if you haven't played it, then Totk.

And not just because you get to keep your horses from BotW. I've heard.

  • FYI new game plus has a perk that makes your lightsabre much more deadly making it much more one hit (also making enemies much more dangerous).

Personally enjoyed the game but not terribly memorable.

  • I found this out just now when I went to the stable to check out my horse.

Now on my giant horse mowing down deer and bobokins for fun and profit.

  • I wasn't overly miffed about missing out on that feature (I tend not to make use of horses all that much anyway), but there did seem to be an oversight in that only non-Master Mode playthroughs were usable for this feature which I thought was a shame.

On a tangental note, had a quick look at my playtime so far, expecting around 20 hours or so. Nope, 50.

Can't remember a game since San Andreas where I've binged this much.

  • Ah ok. Annoying they hide it behind new game plus though, as I'm probably not going to replay it.

  • It is annoying - I played the main story through again just for the combat (which didn't take long) along with the perk that gives you harder enemies. I had no desire to repeat all the extras.

To be fair it makes the combat different but I wouldn't say it really improves the experience. There are still some force powers and the droid hacking bug (feature?) that are way overpowered.

  • Avoiding spoilers as much poss but:

The questline that involves going to multiple digging places underground with mini repeat boss battles at each one (the first one giving you a skill beginning with A). Completing that line and in the final mini boss battle thinking 'why don't I have one of those?'. Then later, flying randomly around in a storm cloud with zero visibility, landing on a sky island in the south, unlocking a door (using hearts...) following THAT questline. Thinking 'well waddya know...!'

In other totk news, the best vehicle I've come up with so far requires two fans and one control pedestal. A fan on either side, both angled at 45 degrees down, blowing backwards. Control stick in the middle. Depending on orientation of controller, it works either one fan behind the other (think motorbike and my default build) or side by side (think segway). Have basically discovered two thirds of the depths on it.

And with a big battery (currently at 5 full blocks of 3 but it looks like you can get up to 8 if you look at the device up close) you can fly for miles. Fans and sticks are all usually found at zonai engineer stashes or dispensers so it's a cheap, easy way to scoot around and feels like I'm playing a star wars game.

Esp with the addition of a certain round friend..

  • I don't have time to play this game, but is there a way to activate devices that doesn't shorten the life of a weapon? Time bombs don't count. Well, obviously they do, but not in this context.

  • It's a single hit so not massive damage to weapons. Also weapons are all so crap and so common it doesn't really matter. But if I have one in my bag I usually use a wooden stick without any fused attachments.

You can also trigger devices by throwing things at them - I usually throw a giant brightbloom seed at the front of my flying bike to act as a headlight in the depths, but need to whack it quickly with a stick so it doesn't take off without me.

  • I was very happy to see that mini boss, very enjoyable IMO!

Though THAT questline was interesting, it did feel like it dragged on for a fair bit. Also the boss battle at the end felt like a bit of an anti-climax.

I've self-imposed a bit of a break as I've clocked in 50 hours over 10 days while working and looking after a kid so I likely have some sleep debt to take care of.

Also, at first I wasn't a fan of the replacements of the divine beast levels, but some of them are very good!

  • I've self-imposed a bit of a break

    You're a stronger person than I

  • MGS3 remake confirmed. I'm unsure how to feel about that. Hands down my favourite game ever, but honestly I'm perfectly happy with the HD Collection and Subsistence versions.

MGSV is amazing from a gameplay and graphical performance point of view, but I really don't mind the slightly clunky gameplay from 2 & 3.

Will be interesting to see how it progresses.

  • Hah! Definitely feeling the effects of too many late nights. Need to get back to a regular sleep pattern. Would be a very different story if I didn't have a young kid constantly sapping my energy!

  • Death Stranding currently free on Epic store

  • ^ be quick, it's only til 4pm, then the next freebie pops up

  • Nice! No idea if/when I'll actually get around to playing it, but nice to have it in the back catalogue

  • My enjoyment of ToTK has solidified my decision to get a steamdeck. I wanna play Dark Souls 3 while I lay in bed.

  • In TOTK I tried making a rotating sword death machine to tow on my horse.
Mowed into a pack of monsters with much glee, then my horse got hit by a stray fire arrow, bolted me off and death machine hit something and got stuck.
One of the monsters picked up a sword that got knocked off the wheel and killed me with it.
