I actually sold mine yesterday
Noo! That's a shame, although I hope you have a similarly crazy build coming up instead.

Perfect!

I think you set a new record for front and rear rack height

I am a winner! Whoo hoo!
In all seriousness. These are 26" wheels and 26" only racks are impossible to find. The stem is an original GT, so original that the bolts are Imperial. Transports beer and wine quite well. I may fettle with the height later.

Also. My wife has never bonded with her Crosscheck for size reasons so I picked up 26" tourer up for a ridiculous bargain on ebay. It's been built up a couple of times but clearly hasn't seen many miles. A new wheelset and a transplant of parts and well, it's pretty awesome. I still need to get around to the mudguards at some point.
If anyone is looking for a basically unused 50cm Crosscheck let me know. I will get around to sale thread eventually.

They're just some cheap aliexpress carbon actually (I don't remember what seller I bought them from)
I bought them for another bike originally as I couldn't find anything I wanted at the time and they were very cheap but they've been pretty solid -

That's a very cool bike!
Re basket height on your GT... Surely this is for quicker access to beers, non?

Only became aware of V Barker recently (someone resurrecting one on here? )... Always something special about them...

You would be very, very surprised at the deal I got on that bike. It has full pump pegs, a lamp mount on the fork, and loads of other small touches. I am very, very impressed at the build quality too.
I cannot get the basket any lower - the axle mounted stays won't clear the rounded shape of the forks near the stays. I might try to mount the stays inside the fork to see if that gives me any more options.
Maybe I should just get one of those growler cages instead.

You can mount to the same boss as the mudguard, use a longer screw and an aluminium stand-off spacer (or the female half of the chainring bolts, maybe you have some left over from the 1x conversion) to clear the round fork leg. Easy peasy! And more convenient than axle mounting

Hmmm. In my head I had that as a no-no due to failure concerns. Not sure why, but perhaps something half remembered from something else. I have unused rack mount eyelets available, I may move them there and see if I can get the rack a touch lower.
The half chainring spacer idea is the kind of idea I wish I'd thought of. Thank you
The overall concern for my build aesthetics and lower centres of gravity for handling is, well, touching. I love this place.

I'm interested in ideas and input for this project I am working on: most parts will be black, some silver (like the Paul cantis I'll install), and a stupid golden Chris King 1" headset I have but not sure about it yet if too much distraction.
Which crank color? Like silver and a black chainring? All black? Will be a 1 x 11speed drivetrain, the back has a 135mm width, I guess I can just swap the freehub.

You don't need a new freehub rotor to use 11-speed MTB cassette on an 8-speed or greater HG hub

Nice one!
Regarding cranks I think silver with black chainring works. Kind of mimics the silver hubs with black tires/rims. -
• #131069
Now there’s a 7 speed freehub installed, that was the reason for a possible swap.

That’s good, silver cranks which look not heavy with the white frame color and black chainring like the tires. Also easier to find silver than black cranks.

You'll probably have to fuck about with spacers/washers between the locknuts and cones to get back to 135mm OLN and enough clearance between the top sprocket and the stays

Just to get back to that discussion several weeks ago which I can't be arsed to find again regarding my similar predicament; it worked swell.
Thanks tester and @coventry_eagle
So yeah madhias, just swap that freehub out. I got the 15,- Shimano one because it looked similar enough. -

Well done mate!
It's rather satisfying making something work rather than getting something off the shelf and ditch the rest.
I do recall what you mentioned as I did the same for someone on here and it worked a charm. Possibly that was the photo I posted?

• #131074
It sure as hell was easier than switching out the hub! And I tried getting the freehub off of a deore hub I had lying around to compare but couldn't generate enough leverage on the nonbuilt hub.
You posted a photo yeah. Of course, I haven't made one. But pinky promise it worked! -

Looks fun, what bars?
Awesome 😎
