  • That is great!

  • Just sent that to a flag-waving raging Tory in my family, who replied with "well that's their own fault for swimming in polluted water"

  • Cause and effect right there

  • The MP probably mis-remembered Swanage.

  • Just a fast show caricature of themselves now.

  • Corbyn to blame once more:

  • There’s some interesting talk about where the braverman speeding ticket story has come from. The suggestion being that it’s been leaked by no10 to bring her inline. The fact that it’s was reported on the front page of the mail this morning appears to be significant.

  • The biter gets bit.

  • Sunaks too weak to just sack her, this could be just a warning shot to shut her up or the first in a number of leaks until he can sacker her. There’s also the suggestion that slightly less mental wing of the party wants her damaged to stop her from taking over after they loss the election.

  • He seemed pretty oblivious at the press conference to what the actual accusation was and happy defending her

  • I'd say that Sunak can wait to see if/when public opinion turns to genuine anger that Braverman asked the civil service to give her an option not available to the general public (one rule for them etc), then sack her for that rather than either allowing her to resign on principal about immigration (and give her leadership bid a nice boost), or (even better for her) be sacked for saying/doing something insane on immigration.

  • Therefore it's 100% from No10, and I'd expect to see a few more revelations briefed anonymously to the press that reinforce the original story with related naughtiness.

  • Did he, did didn’t say it wouldn’t be interested by the standards commissioner. That would be the threat they would be making to her currently.

  • Spokesman followed up saying the prime minister had full confidence in her

He seemed mainly annoyed he was getting questioned about a domestic matter and not the summit, which doesn't seem like a cunning pr plan when they could release the story any day that wouldn't over shadow him

  • Why’s anyone even asking his opinion

  • No one seems to be questioning why Braverman was so determined to take the speed awareness course. Cost of the fine is obviously irrelevant, so trying to avoid points suggests she has a few already.

Enough for a court case and potential ban?

  • The story I read suggested she was concerned by how much it would put up her insurance premiums.

I know she a Tory, but she really is particularly money grabbing.

  • Everyone takes the speed awareness course instead of points if they have a chance. (I did). The first points you get give you a significant hike in insurance costs. (I've never had any points.)

But that's not really the story.

The story is that she wanted a private speed awareness course, rather than one with some commoners who may give her shit, and that she tried to use her position as a minister to make a private speed awareness course happen.

Personally I found loads of the stuff on the speed awareness course really useful, and would recommend getting similar training for any/every driver. It goes beyond what I learned whilst learning to drive (all 3 tests - CBT, car, full motorcycle). And it goes into "why" some of the bits are in the HWC, and how they are derived, rather than them just being stated as fact in the HWC.

  • Maybe a double-bluff daring Sunak to fire her. It looks bad for him either way.
    "Weak, weak, weak."

  • Apparently a while back she asked if she could expense speeding fines. Probe not the first time.

  • According to the story I read she took the points when a private course couldn't be arranged so probably not.
