Quite glad our allotment doesn't have an 'association' and is run by the council (though vaguely frustrated by the council). Folk I've met up our plot are lovely. From Doug who gave me some carrots and cucumbers the first time I went up my plot, Trev who offered me a quarter of his plot to grow pumpkins on (he has at least two plots), the polish couple next to us who let our kids pick their red/blackcurrants and gave me a cold beer on a hot day, Marlon who introduced me to callaloo and grew a massive marijuana plant (didn't share). All friendly good eggs.
