  • Those meals.. call it £25 each x 400,000.. £10M we fucking know how to spunk public money..

  • No medals for front line NHS / ambulance / social workers etc then?

  • David Olusoga made a good point yesterday about public perception of the Windsors..

Do not confuse those who are indifferent with those wanting anarchy or have pro republic views. The royal family just ceases to be relevant for many.

I don’t doubt that some of the royals are good patrons, but on a whole don’t relate to everyone in the UK

  • St John’s Ambulance staff who worked yesterday methinks. Other key workers, I don’t think so.

  • They’ll be on eBay in no time

  • The words of a poet! DB never forgotten😀 I’m currently promoting DB over the American version to guys in work, I think I’m going to lose - they are too young.

  • £10M we fucking know how to spunk public money..

How long before we find out whoever landed that contract is a Tory donor?

  • Unfortunately not, as this would only fuel Medal inflation.

  • lol, why? are they not frontline workers?

  • You know what, you're right, and it's only a useless medal. I've just met and heard many stories about dodgy screws (I guess police as well) that it feels weird hearing them being praised alongside fire and other emergency services. 🤷🏽

  • Maybe it's because they all serve the monarch rather than the people: his maj's prison services, his maj's fire service, etc..

  • Two good points. They're all farkin dodgy then

  • His majesty’s fire service is not a thing. Fire and rescue is usually delivered by metropolitan mayors, county councils or Police and Fire commissioners, for example in London it is a service delivered by the London Fire Commissioner, on behalf of the Deputy Mayor for Fire and Resilience.

On the other hand, His Majesty’s inspectorate of the Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services is a thing (HMICFRS)

  • “Feels like a boys club”

Well, yeah. 93% of firefighters are blokes. Shame there’s some bad apples in there. I suspect in line with the private sector who are never in the public spotlight though.

There’s a lot to do to improve culture. but it has to be done carefully for many reasons. Recruitment and retention being one.

  • I suspect in line with the private sector

I very much suspect you are totally wrong on this. The vast majority of private sector companies do not tolerate racist, misogynistic or homophobic behaviour. Unlike the Met.

  • You met many finance bros?

  • Shame there’s some bad apples in there.

So many people who use the bad apple metaphor seem to miss its original point. "One bad apple spoils the bunch", as in bad apples, not promptly removed, turn the whole tub of apples rotten. Leading neatly on to:

There’s a lot to do to improve culture. but it has to be done carefully for many reasons. Recruitment and retention being one.

Excuses like that are a key reason so many good people who don't fit the old culture and image don't stay. Plenty of evidence to show that.

That said, I don't know which sainted niche of the private sector andyp has been sheltering in. There's also no shortage of evidence for toxic working cultures in the private sector and I know from my own experience how big the gap can be between the official account of what the corporate culture should be and what actually happens.

  • what aload of bollocks..

I’m still convinced our mum fenced all our silver jubilee medals in 2003 when she went on a carribean cruise

  • Needs a blue tick. But that's hilarious.

  • Trump guilty, but not of rape.

£3million in damages but no jail time???

  • It’s a civil case, and bbc are reporting $5m

  • At last, some good news amongst all of the doom and gloom:

UKIP on brink of wipeout after losing all seats in local elections

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-65538114

  • Not really good news - they’ve been squeezed out by the VoteLeave Tory Party occupying their territory. It was better when they could be written off as the lunatic fringe.
