Sounds like you need a new bike
-
• #1528
I always need a new bike, as soon as the most recent one is fresh out of the workstand I need a new bike.
Maybe I should work in a bicycle workshop rather than driving. -
• #1529
As I suspected the bike's are both a little small for me. Good luck with the sale.
Totally get where you're coming from. re the joy of the project.

No worries. Ta

The kettle goes on, the tea goes in the pot, the rollie gets lovingly crafted, tools are checked and neatly placed on the table, the frame is in the workstand (with place holder seat post - don't wanna mark the one that's actually being used)................. and breathe, the build begins.
I can see this presented as a nice bike build video series. Kind of like Old Shovel but with more nicotine

I'd have to get an actor in to play me, I'm shit in front of a camera, even just for a photo, I blame my dad, the daft bastard thought he was David Bailey!

In other news: picked up the Elite Deboyo Race stainless bottle from the lbs today, comes with a sport top (like you get on normal bike water bottles) and a flat insulated screw cap.
Fits nice in a standard king cage, and sits nice n snug in my rucksack side pocket.
Win win. -

Commence building a bike around a bottle cage. I speak from comparable experience.

• #1535
Commencing building a bike around an insulated bidon, oh, and the means to get to work that is quicker than walking (before anyone suggests running, fuck off).
-
• #1536
I think I've had my elite deboyo for 12 years, it is excellent and I almost exclusively use it for hiking.
-
• #1537
Good to hear it'll last me a while.

Re: insulated bottle
How does it work with the sport top? I can't imagine drinking from a top like that without squezing the bottle. -
• #1539
There's a second hole in the top which is connected to a U shape straw inside the bottle to allow air in but not drink out so you can just drink from the mouthpiece without squeeze action

Thanks, that's a much better description of how it works than I would have written.

Brilliant! Thanks both!

A no picture ride report (because I was enjoying the ride too much to stop and take pics).
A hilly day, an early start (for us), 7:30, no royal shit for us pair thank you very much.
Porridged, tead, abluted , away for 7:30.
Out to Prestbury via Swettenham, Lower Withington, Siddington, Broken Cross. The early miles flew by.
Adlington next, up to Brickworks via Nabs Quarry (a new route for us), although I wasn't feeling "it" initially, I kinda found my mojo riding up Brickworks, a very pleasant feeling.
From there down to Kettleshulme, sharp hairpin right, up to Pym's Chair past Windgather Rocks, left at the top, down into the Goyt Valley, absolutely stunning today.
Over Axe Edge to Flash Bar Stores , I had a brew and a piece of cinnamon fruity flapjack, Mattnav went savoury, poached eggs on toast (these were to make themselves known later, good job I was in front, the stinky bastard).
From Flash, round the back of the Roaches, then to Meerbrook, and up we went again, Gun Hill (one of my favourites), dropping down to Rushton to make our usually route home via the Knott Inn and Cloudside. An excellent way to spend a good few hours of a Saturday morning, especially as it seems everyone else opted to stay in front of their tellys, for this we thank you.
Good company, htbs and cake, a rollie, a bag of Haribo (I did share), and very little of the forecast wet stuff, and for those who keep count of such things (Mattnav is a slave to his Strava), 54 miles, 5000 ft of upness.
Sightings:
Kingfisher
Hare (deceased)

Did I see this in Greenwich recently or has it got a doppelganger?
-
• #1546
Not me, or mine.
-
• #1547
Tip top, except for the flying ants.
I am very much enjoying the One Bicycle of Varonha that you sold me and I have been trying to find longer, more interesting routes to work on it.
-
• #1548
I didn't get a proper look to be fair! Was headed in the other direction.

Glad pink bike is being enjoyed, I quite like a long(ish) ride, but have to say there is much merit in a quick blast around a local route.
The flying ants were a bit of a fucker today, making their presence known on a couple of climbs when I was a bit too preoccupied to swat them away.Still not sure what to do with Winston 1, if a suitable "vintage" mtb turns up in my size, in decent condition, and at a decent price, then I may sell it, as days out like today are few and far between, the rest of the time it's just a commuter bike, seems it may be better to pass it on to someone who will get some proper use out of a very nicely made frame set.

not sure what to do with Winston 1
Keep it and ride it, whatever that means. No issue whatsoever with having a posh commuter. In fact, if you have one bike only then it should be the best bike that you can have. This one was built for you and it looks dialled. Keep!
Ha, don't worry I'm going to price them so that nobody buys them, then I can say "well at least I tried to get rid of them".
On the other hand, I may price them fairly, so that the new owner gets a decent deal, and I get enough to do whatever comes along next.
