@LukeG love that build so much. Are both wheelsets 700? I’m now considering Force D2 over Red D1.
@TotalShanner not sure on wheels yet and what budget I may have - considering Light Bicycle rims as I’ve had a few pairs of their rim brake versions and they’ve been great

I think buying Red D1 would be a mistake since it’s gonna be outdated pretty soon - if that would bother you. But Red in general is just terrible value for money.
Force D2 shifters are identical to current Rival other than the lever is carbon. Not a whole lot changed with Force D2 over D1 other than the chainrings got updated and are now the same as the Red D1 rings but black.
A mix of Rival and Force D1 would be the best bang for buck.
I had a set of the new shape Rival shifters. They are arguably nicer looking aesthetically, the smaller form factor is pretty, but I found they felt a wee bit small and went back to the old D1 shifters.
I have Red D1, Force D1 and Rival AXS groupset on my bikes. There’s virtually no performance difference with Rival. Maybe the Red cassette and chain are fractionally smooth, but I have Rival 10-44 cassette and rear derailleur on the gravel bike and there’s barely a perceptible difference, in fact I don’t think o could really tell them apart blind.
Sensible money is Rival AXS with a prettier force or red crank!

Yeah, both sets of wheels are 700. Have had a bit of pedal strike on roots and rocks (175 chainset) so didn’t want to risk 650 as tyre clearance still isn’t massive.
Just an excuse to post it in the thread, 404’s have now been moved over to this

I think force makes most sense personally, aren’t the rear mechs actually different from the rival ones where as force and red are a weight thing…?
I’d run 700s see how you go. I have LB WR38 flyweights and they’ve been great. Keeping meaning to get a non Dynamo front but meh -

Yeah the force and red mechs have the orbit damper which the rival doesn't.
@TotalShanner cheers for the insight. Having never ridden with SRAM I've no idea whether D1 or D2 would suit my hands better, I'm sure both would be fine! D2 looks nicer than D1 IMHO, though the new chainset design seems a bit daft, environmentally at least!

I’m also mystified why they are pushing the direct mount chainrings with integrated power meter especially because they also have their own seperate spindle based power meter too.

I’m going with Italy. For 2 reasons
1, https://standert.de/blogs/journal/handmade-in-italy#:~:text=While%20we%20develope%20all%20our,samples%20to%20the%20finished%20production.
2, the box my frame set came in had Nero, Nero Opaco and Nero Lucido Standert 3T written on the inside of it in marker pen. And it is indeed Matt black with gloss black lettering. -

Pfadfinders are made in Taiwan according to the sticker on the frame.

Going to go with Taiwan for the frame fabrication, with build (installing the groupset) and painting happening in Italy. It's not clear without them really defining what building means.

Just across the street where our frames are built by hand they also get painted by hand
They do use the word frames not bikes. TBH as long as the person building them knows what they’re doing I couldn’t care less ;)

Mine has “handmade in Taiwan” on it. I’m sure the Kreissage says “made in Italy” on it but it’s not with me to check

I always thought they looked suspiciously similar to Condor alu frames, which ofc are (or were) also made in Italy.. Hardly conclusive proof!

I went Force AXS, Zipps (303S with 35’s and 404 with road tyres), Thomson & Easton E100 bars. Had the flared ones initially but didn’t get on with them. Cambium keeps it comfy when it’s bumpy and swap the saddle/seatpost out for Road. Really versatile frames
