  • Have you actually pre-ordered one? I’ve printed out the direct mount template to check it would fit my nomad and dh bike.
    I’d love to have one but it’s the sort of thing I’d really need to try before buying. Think it would be close to £900 after taxes to the UK :(

    Pretty unlikely I’d pay that for a clutch but would love to see how it feels. You should definitely order one and report back.

    A cheaper way to try this, I think Gee Atherton was doing this at some point, is to remove or grind down the bottom cog on the cassette and shift into it when you want to decouple the forces. Slightly less elegant though.

  • My trail bike is in Singapore at the moment so I'm riding the Enduro bike - this morning around Peaslake. I don't know why but something about the Raaw Madonna feels very "right", I feel more comfortable on it than I do the Jibb, that I can recover situations that I think would be challenging to gather back up, and that it's easier to make the Madonna do what I want it to do.

    The Jibb is definitely (on paper) the better bike for Peaslake/HstM, and it'd definitely go up the hills faster, but of the two bikes I have to say I prefer the Madonna.

  • This is much the same with my Nomad and the 5010.

    When I ride the 5010 at trails that don’t really warrant a 170 travel bike, it just never feels quite right. There’s always a feeling that it could somehow be riding better.
    I’m more relaxed and ride better on the Nomad and pretty much always choose it over anything else.

  • Also, the O-Chain is ~£330, and I think the WRP spider is much more fun, features lots of printed titanium, and I can see why it's (quite a bit) more.

    The O-Chain has a weight limit. I'm at that limit in just my pants and exceed it by a bit in riding gear with a full facer.

    The nice thing about the WRP is that it's instant engagement rather than pushing through 12 degrees of dead rotation before you get some drive, which I think (seems!) to be a significant advantage, although IDK if that's going to translate on the trail.

  • Yeah I think it's comparing apples to oranges really, the WRP is doing quite different things.
    I think if I had 155mm cranks and the WRP on my Nomad then it would make my other two mtb's utterly redundant.

    I've heard of folk reducing the number of points of engagement in hubs down to 12 to help reduce kick back. Haven't looked too much into it, but I think it's something like removing pawls in a hope hub.
    If someone made a 12t ratchet ring for DT I'd give it a go.

  • I find when riding uphill I really really want instant engagement. Downhill I'm often in the wrong gear. What would be nice if a gearbox that reads speed and adjusts gear automatically based on some user defined inputs on rations.

  • On a similar note, the Wolfs Tooth dropper remote is excellent but I highly recommend fitting the main pivot bolt with some loctite as it loves to gradually back itself out.

  • I now understand why you don't see these ESI grips on enduro en dh bikes... This is what they look like on my bike after a couple of rides and two crashes

  • Does any of you use Strava (or something similar) in bike parks? I have my wahoo on autopauze but then it also tracks the uplifts even when I pause it manually before.. tried to do without the autopauze but then I don't remember to turn it on every time, is there a better way to do this?

    Was in a trailpark in Erzgebirge, loads of trails scattered all over a shallow hill.
    Loads of fun but the constant yeah downhill/grind up forest road was hard. Also did something with my back on the first day, and spent one afternoon in bed and then had to do loads of stretching. And weather wasn't all that.
    So I rented a Cannondale moterra E-Bike for the last day. Yes, loads of fun and can see why people do it.
    But when you go a bit mad the batteries don't last that long, do they?
    And I started to understand the obsession with suspension setup.
