What on earth are you doing in Arlon?
-
• #1303
Haha! My knee exploded last year so I'm picking up where I left off.
And yeah, German tree roots wtf
-
• #1304
I reckon your route from Arlon to the German border could be an improved for more fun riding so I’ll have a look later.
When you doing it?
-
• #1305
Lovely, thank you. Quick look at OSM Cycle suggests I can route it onto some little lanes and dirt roads. I've been editing this route here; it must go to the Baumwipfelpfad Saarschleife.
Maybe May but weddings/ stags confusing my plans.

HITHER GREEN TO CENTRAL
Moved here recently, finally worked out the route after a few weeks. Can do it at a nice pace, no hairy junctions so can also be done after a few beers. Any deviations / suggestions welcome. In the mornings I like to go down to deptford and pick up the Q1 on the high street but I always come home this way.
TLDR - Hither Green - Peckham Rye - Surrey Canal Walk - Q1 from Crol coffee onwards to central

And via Deptford - busier, but feels quicker (less hills)

Lewisham Way northbound isn't too bad. Link it to Q1 with Clifton Rise and Woodpecker Road

I've not ridden any further than Borg in Germany on this route but...
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/42249530
Routed it through the city and into the river valley as there's a bike/walking road there and a lot of the areas in the city and around it are under a LOT of construction so it can be hard to navigate, dangerous or both. Don't get me wrong, not London-dangerous but enough that it's not worth riding in some places.

Amazing, thanks so much. I stayed in Mersch for four nights last May, and found a wonderful route to Luxembourg City and back. Lovely place to ride a bike
-
• #1310
Awesome. I live not far from the bike path along the valley so in one direction or the other it's the start or the end of nearly every ride from home. There's some really great "gravel" riding on the hills above and some great climbs out of that valley.
Let me know when you figure out a date and if you're up for company I'll come and ride some of it with you!

Heading over to France for the long weekend to watch Paris-Roubaix, does anyone have a route they’d recommend I could ride on the Friday to take in some of the cobble sections etc? Will be staying just outside Lille
Thanks!

Anyone got a nice road route from Inverness to Glasgow?
-
• #1313
Badger Divide is a nice route
-
• #1314
It's not a road route though.
@Thrasher - it's a tough one as you have two roads that you want to avoid, the A9 and the A82, especially around Loch Lomond, but if you head down the Great Glen to avoid the former, it's hard to avoid the latter later.
Personally, I'd go south west through the Great Glen then avoid going inland through Glencoe and stay heading south, then look at going via Lochawe to Inverary, head to Dunoon, ferry across the Clyde then into Glasgow that way.
But I imagine there are much better routes.

• #1315
@Thrasher how long have you got? The slow but picturesque way from Inverness to Dunoon goes out to the west coast, onto Skye then down through Oban, hooking up with NCN 78 south of Fort William. A bunch of ferries involved, but avoids both Great Glen and Loch Lomond. Something like (not really optimised) https://brouter.de/brouter-web/#map=9/56.4474/-5.2350/standard,Waymarked_Trails-Cycling&lonlats=-4.224243,57.471543;-5.898285,57.066124;-5.898285,57.066124;-5.668945,56.878852;-5.668945,56.878852;-5.236359,56.720145;-5.236359,56.720145;-5.42038,56.410594;-5.42038,56.410594;-5.278244,56.274989;-5.42244,55.904208;-4.281921,55.855048;-4.281921,55.855048

Anyone got a few decent flattish SE London/Kent/Surrey routes so I can get some mileage in before next month's tour? Going to be riding relatively loaded, so trying to avoid too many inclines. Looking at circa 50-80km to start with, though longer is also welcome/probably a good idea. Cheers.

• #1318
Great. That looks like it'll do the trick. Cheers.

Route help needed peeps.
I’m visiting my brother for a two night stay in Nottingham in late June. I know nothing of the region but we would like to go on a two night bike packing break. I think B&B rather than camping at this point.
The Peak District is just up the road and my initial thoughts are to do a loop around there.
Any suggestions for digs, gigs and jigs are welcome. Much love.

Has anyone got a nice road route from the Hook of Holland ferry to central Amsterdam? It'll be with a mix of keen cyclists and people with a casual interest at best so looking for a fairly direct, gentle route if possible.

Did anyone do Rapha's Compass Challenge around London last year and come up with a decent route? Never got round to doing it, but liked the idea.
I've got the London Revolution route, so was looking for something slightly different.

I'm looking at doing a bikepacking trip in October up in Kielder. Any must do's aside from the kielder forest Road and the Penine way section south of Blakehopeburnhaugh? Looking to ride in from Haltwhistle via KFR then do a loop from kielder then ride back to Haltwhistle via Kershope.
Any #insight much appreciated.
Edit. Will be with a friend who is on a Canyon Endurace? so max 32c.

Finally got around to this today. Apart from having to turn right off the A20 and it trying to send me up a disused footpath in Eynsford (probably an OSMAnd issue), it was great. Knatts Valley descent was glorious and I was thankful there were no real hills on the way back. Will do again, though might find a different route to Mottingham Lane next time.
-
• #1324
ah sorry, just checked and tracking dropped in Eynsford so it tries to shortcut to Bower Lane. And yes needs something nicer to Mottingham Lane
-
• #1325
No worries - it was kind of funny trying to negotiate a footpath and some back streets while thinking 'where the fuck is this route taking me?' Nearly turned back but found Bower Lane and figured that was the right road. Glad I didn't turn back as the next 10 miles or so were incredible.
Did 100km of it in Germany along the Rhine. With the tree roots pushing the tarmac up it was like being kicked in the arse and nuts for 3-4 hours. Would have been fun for a gentle pootle, a rush to catch a train wasn't quite as fun.
