That's what I thought, but wanted to check.

Wedge to keep snug?
Bingo. Pretending to do actual joinery
-
• #6205
I once saw a 'wedge' in a similar design but it was a thin splinter glued into a routed line.
-
• #6206
Reckon I could try make that. Beautiful
-
• #6207
Splinter first, with as bit of glue, hammered into the routed line, then the bit that's left poking out is shaved/sanded down so it's flush, then varnished/finished

How do you fit it?
Do you just cut a small slit and hammer the wedge in? Or do you chisel a deeper V-shaped groove?

Those metal ones are great.
Bierbank is what I am sitting on, having a cheap beer and looking at people on Kottbusser Damm. -

It's the absolute best when it comes to whole tree benches. More pictures here:

It's friends of mine that run the shop, and that's, among all their nice stuff, the one I regret not buying most.
Unlike the ones in similar style you see in the Alps, this one looks like it's comfortable.
Please make 2!

The guys in Switzerland also have this:
MAURIZIO PEREGALLI
PANCA
ZEUS NOTO, ITALY
40 CM X 120 CM X 42 CM
MAETAL, RUBBER
At only 500chf it might even be not crazy to get to the UK. At least with Switzerland Brexit doesn't matter.

Very cool. I'm going to keep my eye out for a suitable tree.

Call your local sawmill and ask if they sell the waste offcuts. My local does decent sized planks with splits and shakes like this for about £20 that would make a half decent bench.

Droog I dunno about this one. But definitely were important when I wanted to become an architect.
But that other one, yeah! -

And hopefully my last bench, this one by Frederik Fialin.

My wife wants some kind of wood cladding along a wall in a side return. Not the side of the house but the wall bordering our neighbour. How do? How much?
The idea of adding yet more wood outside bothers me given how shit we are at maintenance with existing stuff.

Kinda. Think she saw this: https://www.edwards-rensen-architects.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/courtyard-design.jpg and thought it was a starting point for improvement on our concrete mess of side return. Which would be true, though far from perfect. But maybe a practical and achievable improvement in time for summer.

To me that looks like a planter full of bamboo with a logstore bench in front and a wanky fence behind it - which is in some kind of hardwood like iroko maybe ? - with larger boards below (possible sold as decking boards) and battens at the top. Which you can get from somewhere like southgate timber https://southgatetimber.co.uk/catalog/decking
Aye but that 11k offers bragging rights to your pals who will think you've got too much money and are an idiot.
