  • I wonder what the 'tax' is in 'booking fee + tax'?

  • Absolutely go for it then! They really are great.

  • Rear wheel options for a Bullitt.
    What do I need / how much/etc ?

  • I am sure I will enjoy riding..my concern is mostly about storage. My neighbour has 2 motorbikes and never had any issues so I think I need to get used to having a bike living outside. On another note do you think it would be possible to lift the GSD and carry over 7-8 steps.?I want to test ride the HSG, Quick Haul and GSD as the seem easier in traffic and streets.

  • Depends. I am not a small person, but lifting the GSD over one step eventually did my back in so I made a ramp. But that was more to do with it being an awkward step in a tight gate opening. I'm sure it is possible to lift more sensibly given more space. A friend keeps his in the boot of his Saab estate and has no problems lifting it in and out. Also depends on the accessories as to where you can easily get a hold of it and how the weight is distributed.

GSD is definitely easier to store than an out front cargo bike. And rides more like a regular bike. Plus it will stand up on its arse if you are really pushed for floor space.

  • I ride across the top of Streatham Common four times a day if you want to ambush me and try and pick one up that has full porteur front rack, clubhouse, stormbox and Hamax Caress. Plus a few locks.

  • I need a trailer for my UA that is about 120 x 80cm.
    Load will be about 35kg.

So far the frontrunner for me is a Donkey trailer, anyone used these? I like the manufacturer's vibe.

  • If you're willing to DIY you could get frame parts and wheels from a company like Magliner and build one like I did.
I went this route partly because of cost (came out about half equivalent) and partly because I wanted the platform to sit above the wheels in order to accommodate a greater range of load sizes. The trailer can take about 250kg.

  • My lovely dearest son experimented with wire cutters on my Shimano E6100.

Center wire off the computer mount.

Seems to travel back to the motor or the speed sensor or the rear light. My guess is speed sensor

    Replacement part?

Whole experience was interesting as we were several hills and miles from home. We spliced it back and made it. Thankfully I kept my cool entire time. First world parenting problems.

  • Single red and black sure LOOKS like wiring for lights. Id just solder them, shrink wrap and call it a day. Anything doing complex signaling should be more complex. And if the bodge works a slightly better bodge will work even better-er

  • I've come to the same conclusion

  • Speed sensor is the one with a special plug. Goes from back wheel to motor directly, so its not that.
Cable is a normal SD50 di2 cable, its basically just a 2 core cable, solder it up, shrink wrap it. Its just a digital signal so unless its a terrible connection it'll likely be fine.
New cables are around £20/25 and easy to change if you have to.

  • No. Glasgow Bike Hive, we do Omnium's, Bullitts and Benno.
Also fix a lot of Terns, UA and RM's, but will work on any decent ebike or cargo as we have a big workshop and generally know what we are doing. Lots of shops, even established ones that sell Bosch, Shimano and Yamaha based systems don't really get involved in fault finding on these bikes (looks across workshop at least 5 cubes, misc euro brands with bosch and shimano drives needing minor attention) as they are either not confident, skilled or don't have the basic tools (shimano and bosch interface and crank tools are less than £150 and so long as you don't stand on them, will last years just fine) or just aren't interested in doing anything for their customers beyond warranty. Their loss, we scoop up a LOT of these customers who have been subtly pushed away by the original retailer, all of which are happy for the time and repairs in exchange for sensible amount of money, simples**
**Bosch + Shimano + Yamaha warranty is slower and more tedious than it used to be. Top tip is just don't modify or mess with your motor, or wash it with anything other than a bucket and brush, and you'll be fine, and when things do go wrong, the warranty will help out, because you haven't messed with it. Had a spate recently of modified motors = sorry mate, can only sell you a new one (from mftr, distr and from me).

SBC are a decent crew, do things similar to us, don't get too big for their boots, don't take mad risks, just do good work and trundle along happily.

  • Any trailer-heads in? I've got some newby questions in the Trailer thread

  • if you're on a budget, we took the top off a halfords kids trailer and covered it in boards, it worked a treat.

  • Couple of brand new Urban Arrow - discounted on eBay. One L and on XL.

Bosch e-assist & Enviolo CA hub.

Good for the £4k money asked especially for those who can claim VAT back

  • What are the thoughts on gearing with bafang? I currently have a Bullitt with 12 speed SLX, but about to install BafangHD, thinking that it might be better to swap out the rear mech and cassette to a 7/8/9 speed. Anyone had experience with this?

  • 7/8/9 ideal for chain life and that level of torque going through drivetrain. Alfine 8 the best but quite a faff to swap to it; new wheel, new dropouts etc.

Defo install the gear indicator. On my Bullitt with Bafang I had Alfine and didnt install it as I never shifted while pedalling. @cake has it on his Omnium.

  • I really don't like my alfine.
Felt great for a short time after I did the whole oil bath thing, but now it feels slow again.
Also really don't like the faff with cable installation, always manage to not match the 4th gear. But the slow thing is probably not relevant with a motor.

  • Alfine is shit on analogue bikes and unnecessary. Also Alfine 8 over 11 for the motor.

  • Battery is, as suspected, too big for the front triangle.

How are the barriers put together?

Would it be possible to reconfigure them into a shape that would fit in the reinforced space behind the cranks? Then make a box to protect them.

(I know yours is the fat bike version pic just for ease of illustration)

  • Yeah not keen on swapping out for Alfine, already spent enough ££ as it is.

Might go with mega jockey wheel Altus 8 speed.

  • ha! perfect. Put a ceramic speed sticker on it.

  • barriers

    Barriers? Me no understand.

I don't think there is enough space to fit it on the horizontal / lower section due to the other stays coming down to the bottom bracket (circled in blue below).

There are a couple of M5 bolt holes in the larger red circle below, so my thinking is to utilise those, and then carve up a piece of thick alu with a dremel and p-clip that into place in the region of the smaller red circle to provide another fixing for the top end of the battery.

I’m going with that being an Auto-Carrotted batteries. It makes sense then :)
