  • I don’t understand how anyone can put themselves through watching BBC QT.

  • Any Questions and Any Answers is better on R4

  • I rarely listen to Any Answers on the basis that opinions people feel the greatest need to air are typically (imho) those they should be keeping to themselves... but I occasionally listen just to be impressed by Anita Anand's broadcasting skills.
Last time I listened, she had Tony (retired chartered accountant, Godalming) mansplaining the NHS.... The polite skill with which she courteously brought his pompous lecture to a premature end was splendid.

  • Totally agree she has a real skill for diplomacy!

  • I do quite like her, but tbh any media show where the public are invited to 'Speak Your Branes' undermines my faith in democracy.

My experience of LBC & 5-Live callers

  • AQA is a real roll of the dice. Sometimes you get some really interesting callers with experience in something.

Other times like this weekend you get some div proposing some ridiculous idea or basic bitch gotcha.

  • I have a general policy of avoiding any BBC programme with a studio audience or that takes questions from the public. The former usually descends into attempts from the panel to court applause with populist platitudes.

  • Well said, mate!

  • No Mrs Brown's Boys for you!

  • Moore Large is no more?

  • Ah shit, I needed some jagwire cables.

  • Yup. Never really bought anything from them, was well covered from other distro.

Many of the distro are bearing the brunt of what's going on right now, it's not just here though, just back from Copenhagen and the slow down on bike sales has hit shops (and their distributors) hard as well this winter.

  • Lol, they’re about the only one I dont have an account with, but they’ve been around for ever

  • I wonder if a lot of them thought the lock down surge was permanent and over stocked?

  • Not as simple as that. 2020-1 every mftr, distro and retailer in the western world wanted more bikes, more parts, more than could be made given factory and supply chain shut downs.

The parts and bikes that were available would go to those making the biggest promises of forward commitments to inventory, or at least those in a position to wield that kind of credit and/or actually start making payments on those forwards to guarantee supply.

As things returned to normal, mftr were still turning stuff out (most might have increased supply a bit, but there is only so fast machines wil go with out spec and buying more machines to make parts (i. E kmc chain making machines don't grow on trees). Now things have slowed to pre 2019 levels the stock keeps turning up and the mftrs want paid. The distro are in the middle being squeezed from both sides, add to that the price of credit for them has just about tripled inside a year and you can see how this happens despite a fairly normal number of orders from retailers still being placed.

I (and every other shop) still has stock turning up they was ordered and sometimes even paid for over 2 years ago and will continue to randomly flow in through the front door until mid 2024

  • Upgrades, TRP cables is the same.

  • It's cool, I don't actually need any.

It's known as Any Racists in our house.

I don’t understand how anyone can put themselves through watching BBC QT or listening to AA.

This is very true though, the woman's a saint.

    Anita Anand's broadcasting skills.

  • Ah shit, I needed some jagwire cables.

SJS may well still have stock.

    It's cool, I don't actually need any.

    Oh OK then.

  • I have a vague need to restock cables, but shop amounts, I'd normally get reels of jagwire and Moore Large is/was their distro. I've been putting it off for as long as possible though because like all the other shops I'm running day to day and putting off bigger cost stocking up stuff means I can hopefully pay myself instead of having enough cables to last into the uncertain future, the kind of thing that has lead to them failing really.

And from now will be in ours too.

  • Bit of fiddling to the free hours - which is good but still a bit minor and lacking in imagination (no surprises there).

Nice to see CT having higher and lower rates again.

Will be interesting to see what the investment relief looks like in detail

  • I can see that fucking over many childcare providers though. They get paid in arrears meaning if a parent was paying upfront, weekly, the provider will have much less cash flow until the payment comes from the government. I didn't even know/realise we were eligible for the 15 hours free so to try and make up for it, we pay quarterly, up front now. We're going to have to pay it anyway, and the person looking after mini_com is not out of pocket for any extended period of time.

If they are giving parents the relief, they should also be looking at how to pay care providers more fairly.
