  • Yes do not go intel. Not sure when they will appear in the refurb store but if you use the refurb tracker website it will email you when one is in stock. I just woke up early this morning and what I wanted was in stock.

  • great. it'll probably be around christmas i want it for.

  • also + 1 for M1 mini, I have one that I use for work, so fucking rapid. I bought it used last year at about the same price as they go now!

  • Apple TV remotes: anyone?

  • I removed mine by mistake/trying something/ I think it’s broken.
    Done the hard reset.
    Charged remote.
    Will not pair.

    It’s fucked innit?

  • Headphones are connected, but the MBA cannot see them as an audio output/input device.

    Any ideas?

I don't want to be the 'have you turned if off and on again guy', however, have you tried deleting the bluetooth pairing and then re-pairing? I've got a pair of Sony WH-CF500 and had to do that with them to solve some connection issues this week on all of my Apple stuff.

  • Bought some Airpod Pro 2. Tried calling a friend through WhatsApp audio and they can’t hear anything. I can hear them very faintly and can also hear myself.

Is there some settings that I need to adjust?

Edit - Restarted phone and reconnected AirPods, seems to have sorted it.

  • Next issue. The sound randomly breaks up when listening to music. Only seems to happen when outside, phone is in my pocket.

    Anything obvious to check?

  • Any iPhones for sale? 128gb at least and good battery are the requirements. And not £££

  • i weirdly only get this when walking through waterloo at peak morning rush hour . have never observed it anywhere else so assume it is just due to density of people/bluetooth use

  • Selling my 2020 Macbook Air if anyone is in the market:

  • Anyone with the ifixit iopener (the microwaveable one)? Looking to do a battery replace and wondering if they are worth it/ if people had tips. (Xs for reference)

  • After having done many DIY iPhone battery replacements for myself and acquaintances over the years, I would highly recommend paying Apple to do it instead.

For manifold reasons, chief of which is you know you’ll be getting a genuine battery which will last more than 6 months.

  • For screen (it’s cracked slightly) + battery replacement from Apple is quoted at £289 (battery alone 89) vs ifixit prices £107. The latter of which is inflated by buying tools twice.

Quite a large gap to justify. Looking at eBay sold XS 64gb (what I have) only sell for ~150 max so neither option is great £ wise tbh.

  • Between platforms in the concourse of London Bridge. Every time.

  • For a 5 year old phone, I'd give it a go myself but trying to get as good components as possible. I'd buy everything from ifixit.

Do you really need to buy tools twice? They usually sell kits with parts+tools, but also parts and tools separately

  • They usually sell kits with parts+tools

    Decent tools is a must.

The shit ones in those ebay kits are only fit for applying glue or scratching itches.

  • I've had a few kits from ifixit and always found the quality to price ratio really good. Their screwdriver sets are excellent

  • I was double counting to show the depths of the price differential. I agree the ifixit tools are good / price, but some of the ones on the lower end are not nearly as nice as the slightly more premium one -- thats why I was asking about the microwavable goo opener tool.

I'll probably give the self repair a go. I'm a bit worried about getting it back together perfectly nice but as you said it is already a 5 year old phone (geez!). I'd love to get another 3 out of it.

  • @kboy talked me into (it didn't take much really) buying this kit

from Ifixit, and it's been invaluable over the last couple of years.

Nice knowing I have the correct bits to take apart and put together most of my electrical equipment, though I draw the line at iphones, and ipads, the glass screens are fuckers to deal with..

  • Air Pods Pro 2nd generation -
what kind of rubber / foam tips do you guys use, if not the stock ones?

    tl;dr -
ideally I'd like to buy something that's like the stock Apple ones in M, but a bit smaller.

Basically all variants of Apple Earbuds did fit my ears just fine in the last couple of years, with the Air Pods Pro the size M feels a bit big (and S definitely too small, also fails the fit test, and the L size way too big, obviously).
It's sort-of alright, but the tips just feel a bit big, and it's kinda uncomfortable after half an hour.

I read good things about the Comply ones. Haven't been too thrilled with memory-foam-kinda tips in the past - bit fiddly to handle, plus they really seal air-tight - which is the point obviously but it felt quite strange last time I used one of those (Sure SE215 for what it's worth) - is this "underwater feeling" a bit better when using the memory foam tips with the ("vented") Air Pod Pros?
Also: how do the size M Comply ones compare (size wise) to the size M Apple ones? I'd rather not buy the set with all the sizes 😅

Do any of you have other suggestions?

    Ta!

  • According to my girlfriend (I have no apple stuff apart from the ipod shuffle I found in a drawer the other day) you can only Facetime when you have wifi. Is this correct or can it be changed somewhere as it is a real ballache at times?

  • Nah - 4g / 5g works fine.

You can change it in settings. Just make sure it's an app that's got a green toggle under Mobile Data (scroll down)
