You absolutely do not have to match the incessant upgrade cycle that it's pushed by the market.
I'm still using my PC with i7 processor I bought in 2010, and the SLI 970 GPUs I upgraded in 2020 for £100. Obviously cost more than a console at the time but it's lasted well.
I've played God of War, Horizon etc (all on sale of course) and they look great even on medium settings.
Inclined to agree. There's a big push in PC gaming for being able to run things at mega high settings at 60fps, but if you just want to run games and have equivalent performance to console you can get away with a much more modest build.
Also - when did light shows start on the cases? I will be in the market for a new PC soon and I cannot find cases that aren't glass, aren't oddly shaped and that aren't stuffed full of LED fans.
I cannot wait for beige boxes to become a nostalgia fuelled trend.
