Not sure this is the right thread (is there somewhere better to note possibly stolen bikes seen?) but the Marketplace ad and few responses from seller suggest nicked - anyone's?

Well this looks suspect...
Full Dura Ace, Enve finishing kit etc. described as "road bike"

But it does have Wellgo pedals to complement the DA groupset, maybe they're just a Hereford wrong'un

My garage in Peckham was broken into sometime in the last week and, along with a bunch of power tools, my bike was taken. It's mostly made up of parts I got off here; Vernon Barker frame, Velocity B43 wheels, ITM stem, trans-x riser bars, kinda distinctive I think.

Anyone had any luck with the police actually investigating stuff? My recently stolen shifters are now for sale on ebay - the police report email says they've passed it on to local police to see if they can investigate - but it feels like they'll be sold before anyone does anything...

Is it possible to prove that they're definitely your shifters with distinctive marks etc?
Could you buy them and then raise a case with eBay for a refund?
I thought eBay are usually fairly good at protecting buyers, and at least you'll have the name and address of the seller to pass on to the police.

• #16409
yeah defo just buy them and try and fuck them through ebay somehow
-
• #16410
yeah, they've got a couple chip marks which match with photo's i've got, so i'm 99% sure they're mine. The seller seems to be selling a lot of seatposts and shifters only, so it's pretty suspect...
Think i'll buy them, not pay, and hope the police actually step in at some point next week

There's a comment here - https://twitter.com/metpoliceuk/status/1333335067226214402?lang=en-GB - about that seller selling stolen goods in 2020. And they sell shifters, saddles and seat posts so I'd think you're right.

This is literally the seller selling my shifters

Just witnessed a bike being stolen at Tate modern 😳
A guy rode up to lock his bike up, and in the time he put down his bag to get a lock out another guy who was near grabbed his bike and was off.
The whole thing done in seconds, so damn quick not a single person could react.
The guy looks devastated.

Seems a decent business to get into. Just there, in the open, selling stolen goods.
Infuriating.

Brutal :/

I was though to always park in highest gear possible - had same happened years ago, someone jumped on my unlocked bike but he didn't get far, so it must kind of work.

• #16418
yup - reported to police, reported to ebay and no action whatsoever from either. now sold too, so shifters will be long gone...

It's basically decriminalised

One of the boroughs had their branded electric cargo bike stolen. Cops did the usual, citizens found the bike, no charges were pressed against the guy caught red handed with it. Bike was recovered by said citizens.
Honestly, other than catching an occasional beating from the wrong victim, why would cunts steal anything else?

• #16421
Any more info on this case?
-
• #16422
Not that I’d be comfortable sharing online, but there’s not much else to say that’s very important. Have clarified that the bike was recovered.
-
• #16423
Not to worry. Only asked as I have previously worked with council cargo bikes

Just as an update, police have actually been in touch - agree that they're the same shifters (whcih have now been sold) but are intending to "invite the seller to come in for an interview" once they've got the details from ebay.
Not entirely sure what any of it means, but at least they're sort of doing something...
