  • Nailed it!

  • I secretly hope you return it to drops for my aesthetic pleasure but will simply change my opinion if it turns out that flat bars are more comfortable for you.

Can you go on more tours so that I can read more write ups? 1 per year seems a bit stingy.

  • Drops look so much better, don’t they?

Still not 100% sold on alt bars yet though. Willing to give them another chance, soon as I decide which ones to get next.

Would like to try Jones bars, but that would be an expensive experiment. Might get the On Ones, though they don’t come in silver unfortunately.

I’m actually thinking about doing more frequent, smaller tours in the future, instead of one big one in the summer.

It is actually way easier to factor in a weekends here and there, overnight camping jaunts than one huge one...

Also takes up way less annual leave!

  • personally i hope you build a muddy fox for every type of handle bar you wish to try, a fleet of them

  • Aesthetically the drops are better, and we all know that's what we're here for, sod riding bikes, just roll it to a nice location, take some photos, job done ;)
Lovely write up of your tour. Only been to Germany once, didn't see much of the place, may need to go back.

  • a fleet of them

A group of foxes is apparently called a skulk. The more you know.

  • Was definitely looking for some more hand positions at times.

bar ends by on the mid section of the bars

  • I have the on ones .. they are great for climbing and stretching out .. but I think the back sweep is too much frankly. Something like the Koga Denham bar would probably be perfect. Just looks dorky AF

  • Oh yes mate. This is so good, and the top down of the bars. I’ve been riding my partners flat bar hybrid, it’s really refreshing. Gorgeous shots of blue skys and a forest to ride alongside! But I’m really enjoying the proportions of this. Looks comfy and like you’ve got all your things in handy places. Wide(ish) saddlebags >>> waggling seat packs.

    I miss the IRDs though

  • Not to worry; the IRDs are currently shining on the Crust.

  • The peak form picked out on bikepacking.com editors picks of readers rigs.

  • Thanks for the mention! Hadn’t seen this yet.

Nice shoutout to @Tijmen as well.

  • I had your post in mind when I took this picture last summer.

  • Oh and obligatory analog wanker picture of the bike of course.

  • Look at that ridiculous posture. Maybe Wim was right after all.

  • Just found this little gem in the danish classified’s

  • Nice! Isn't that like only 2 bucks? Shipping might cost me tenfold!

  • I’m sure I can orchestrate a logistics chain.

  • Damn maybe I should keep my 90s raleigh. Lovely bike, man.

  • @Simba: Very kind, but I basically only use this bike as a touring bike now, and then it's kitted out with Wit Slingers bags.

@kvragu: For sure keep it! Got any pictures of it?

  • Eh, it's getting built and rebuilt all the time so it's not presentable. I'm couched due to sciatica so I'm just tinkering constantly.

  • Drops are back on the menu. Also borrowed the wheels and tyres from the Crust (don't ask me why).

Bike rides great, think I'm going to tour with this setup this summer.

  • So wait, is this now 650B or am I seeing things?

Edit. Oh ok, you said as much.

  • You're not. 650b x 47.99 fits apparently, with looong reach calipers.
