I personally think Surly still work on the assumption that people that ride bikes buy their products. And in the US their frame sets aren’t out for the way in price. So buy a Preamble or whatever style you like and transfer all the bits from that hybrid or MTB that you don’t ride anymore. What drops? Get some (god forbid) corner bars or maybe some bar end shifters and away you go. You can upgrade later if you like. It’s a sound business model if they can keep being fresh, but at the same time keeping one foot in the past.
It works for me, it’s just a shame UK prices aren’t so attractive anymore.
