Im guessing you'd probs do some construction if you bought that maybe not the sub basement levels like another poster but opening up rooms and putting steel in.
I think 500 to 1 mill would make that house absolutely next level and filled with the best of the best.
Shame ill never be able to afford something that grand.

£40k on the kitchen still leaves you £960k for everything else. (Although I think whatever kitchen goes in there will cost a lot more than £40k).
More seriously, even in London's famous London in 2023, £5k / sqm on a gut reno with no new construction seems steep.
