  • At least they say hit by car. Guardian had title at bike hits car

  • My Kinesis 4S Disc was QR with disc brakes and it finished at least a TransAm and TCR with no issues (at least none related to that combination of parts).

  • I stand corrected. I’d thought they were more prone to popping out under braking load.

  • I'm sure the UK will step in and:

Buy the trains from Spain for list price
Find they don't fit in our tunnels
Secretly dump them into a UK waterway

    ftfy

  • Maybe they are but then you're looking at user-error for not doing up the QRs properly. Mine certainly experienced a good amount of 'braking load'.

Clear driver error. The driver's in the wrong lane to start with--are they trying to overtake Walker? The crash then happens in a very badly-designed zone of the roundabout, i.e. where the immediate offside lane divides in two, with one division for turning left off the roundabout, and one for continuing around the roundabout. This is a very common design error, and one of the main reasons why roundabouts have always seen so many crashes (not only between users of different modes, but also between drivers). The lanes should be defined in the approach to the exits earlier, especially with multi-lane exits. At a quick inspection, all the roundabouts on Sheffield's ring road have this issue in different ways, even the very large Park Square roundabout on most of its arms except one. (The University Square design is completely crazy.) I can't quite tell whether Walker's attempting to turn off the roundabout into Moore Street or whether he's attempting to carry on around the roundabout, but in any case he is perfectly entitled to be positioned where he is and is clearly visible to the driver.

  • I’d thought they were more prone to popping out under braking load.

They are prone to gradually backing off over a period of time. Like all fixings, they should be checked regularly - they are safe enough if they are maintained. Through axles are 'safer' in that they are less prone to backing off, and the wheel is unable to eject from the forks if they do, or the user neglects to tighten them fully.

  • Japan to the US: "You think your potential UFOs are cool? Wait until you sea mine"

  • I've had two TAs loosen off before. Last one was during AMR. I wonder if it happened because of the crash or just the braking and vibrations. Spent a day trying to sort out my gears and it wasn't until the next morning when I picked the bike up to leave CP2 that it clunked when I grabbed it. Shook the wheel and it was fucking loose. Of course it was the last thing I thought of checking...

  • Looks like a float.

    Hope it's not a mine

  • That's a bizarre roundabout design, what were they thinking?

It's hard enough for people to use well designed ones let alone ones with Surprise!!!! Lane changes.

  • Yeah. They can back off, but as you found out, the wheel is less likely to wander off if they do, compared to QR. Like all fixings they gotta be checked.

For my own education, how would you redesign that one? The lane division doesn't appear to be the cause of the collision here - the driver simply made a lane change when it was not safe to do so, well ahead of the division point.

Or is the point that if the second lane was ahead only and not able to turn off, the driver at fault would have had to start making their way to the immediate offside lane much earlier?

  • Would've saved a lot of time if the wheel fell out to be honest :)

  • I see Led By Donkeys painted the road outside the Russian Embassy. Maybe they should do Tufton St too…

  • Heard there is a safe seat in Kigali

Suella Braverman could face rejection in two traditionally safe Tory seats and be forced to move more than 70 miles to remain as an MP.
The home secretary is set for a showdown when Tory members in the new seat of Fareham and Waterlooville, in Hampshire, vote on whether they want Braverman or Flick Drummond, the MP for Meon Valley, to represent them in parliament.
Local sources said they expected Drummond to win, which would leave Braverman looking for another constituency. But an ally of Braverman’s said: “Safe to say, she will fight tooth and nail for it so she can carry on representing her constituents.”

The battle has arisen because of changes to constituencies in the boundary review. Drummond’s constituency will be abolished and absorbed into other areas.
The changes mean in most cases sitting MPs will need to be re-approved by local associations, but if there is a contest over who should have the seat, it can go to an open vote of members.

  • lol.
The fact that so many "big beasts" of the Tory party are getting shafted by the boundary review gives me a little bit of confidence that it's not a totally corrupt process.

  • Fucking hell, I’m in Fareham, seeing the end of braverman would be A fucking amazing. I’ve talked to Drummond a couple of times when when was briefly in southsea, she’s Tory scum but nothering like that total cunt braverman.
