A bag full of spare cassettes hanging off each grab handle is always a good thing when you have to squeeze past pavement parkers.

Same with the "Oirish" of NY and Boston.
Some time back around the millennium, one of the New York newspapers did a survey of opinions among recent Irish immigrants and Irish Americans from several generations of Irish Americans, comparing and contrasting. Most hated Irish-themed film for the new immigrants: The Quiet Man. Most popular Irish-themed film amongst the Irish Americans: The Quiet Man.

John Wayne was not known for his historically accurate, or even generally accurate, films. See the east facing sunset at the end of the Green Berets.
I used to work with an-ex Green Beret who was active in that theatre before it was released. He loathed that film. And John Wayne

Heh. I can recall,at some point in my childhood, listening to a radio play in which an Asian American high school kid wrote an essay criticising John Wayne's films and then had recurring nightmares that the actor's glowing, radioactive corpse was lurching across America to get him.

If you're a history nerd, I heavily recommend this Behind the Bastards episode about John Wayne. He was fucking awful.

recurring nightmares that the actor's glowing, radioactive corpse was lurching across America to get him.
Now that is a John Wayne film I would watch.

‘recurring nightmares that the actor's glowing, racist corpse was lurching across America to get him’
That’s the plot of The Searchers right there

People who take a long haul flight in first class with all the bed, tv, fancy food, privacy stuff then moan about how arduous their journey was.

Hunters. And their dogs. Got chased along a (thankfully quite flat) road by 3 dogs yesterday with guys with rifles yelling at them to come back. The dogs were at least not dangerous but scared the shit out of me. Oh, and the gunshots earlier were also a bit worrying as there had been no signs put up that the hunters were out.

Lemon and sugar on pancakes. Sorry - but it's gross.
(and so is lemon drizzle cake). -
• #21867
What’s your stance on Lemon curd on crumpets you fucking weirdo?
-

Lemon and sugar is the king of the crepe.
I can't stand pancakes with overly sweet fillings like N*t*ll* (which is banned in our house due to Palm Oil, but recently found Bonne Maman Hazelnut Chocolate Spread that is palm oil free, so that has made a temporary return for pancake day.)

Lemon and sugar and lemon drizzle are fucking top tier, lemon anything except party.

Foul. Lemon and sweet together is an abomination.
Ham and cheese pancakes for me tonight.
Maple syrup and ice cream for pudding ones. -
• #21871
Lemon and Sugar are the ONLY acceptable pancake accompaniments.
You can blow maple syrup out of your arse.

Crepes / pancake day pancakes - Lemon & sugar
American style pancakes (especially with bacon & poached eggs) - Maple syrupHam and cheese just makes it a shit wrap.

Ham and cheese just makes it a shit wrap.
Or a crap omelette.

Heathen! You wash that dirty mouth out!
Lemon drizzle cake is one of life's luxuries. Indeed, I can demolish a full box of Kipling's offerings no bother.

I eat lemons the same way one would an orange. Have done it since I was a kid, I love it.
My in-laws have had a succession of these. Always some shitty 50 - 100€ thing from Moulinex or some other low-rent brand. Bizarrely they also have mains-powered hoovers that are equally useless. Their last one broke, and I took the liberty of replacing it with a 350€ Shark as they were on sale. It's like night and day, and their rugs have changed colour now they have been hoovered properly.
