@Hulsroy I would agree.
@e54 Thanks. They’re currently on my gravel bike.
@shinkuu_kiss Ahhh, thanks! Glad that you’re back into cycling. You were always such a strong rider and I still have fond memories of riding the Dunwich Dynamo with you.
I ordered an Alpina seatpost from Dolan but it arrived with no clamp hardware (I thought it felt too light to be true before unpacking it!). The bits are on the way so I should have it rolling in one way or another soon.
@Maj Thanks!
@hippy The bike shop that built my Resolution are waiting on a blade for their ‘very expensive tool’ and when it arrives they’ll sort it for me. I wonder if it’s the same tool?

Took the fixed for a spin around the Forth, 100km in total with some spicy headwind.
The new pedals feel lovely. I had to lower my saddle a few mm as I slammed the cleats quite far back on my road shoes, but I think the overall position on my bike feels better now.
Coincidentally, I planned my route around a now disused viewing area that looks over a quarry and later on in the ride I found some binoculars at the roadside. God, is this a message?

I really like the look of that Mason, I'm normally not a fan of all black bikes but it looks classy and well balanced. What's the tyre clearance?

I think it’s 30 and guards or 35 without guards. I’ve got 28’s on there now but I used to run 32 on everything. Changed to 28’s as that’s the max my fixed could fit with guards and I wanted to use the same size tyres for these two bikes. Can’t say I’ve noticed any difference.

The saddle hardware arrived so I threw some bits on the SETA to check the saddle to bar drop. I thought I might be a bit spicy… and it is.
I did day dream about speedy summer audaxes on the SETA; dusty roads, flappy gilets, sneaking into peoples back gardens in the middle of nowhere to fill up your water bottle from the outside tap, that kinda thing. But putting drops and brakes on it for one or two rides a year seems a bit pointless. Although I do have some carbon TRP levers in the parts bin that would work pretty well. We’ll see…
For now, I’m going to build it up as pictured and then swap the stem and bars out for silver Nitto parts. Then I’ll eventually relace the hubs onto some TB14’s. This way, if the urge to put drops and brakes on becomes too much, I can find some silver Nitto bars so everything stays matchey-matchey and the silver rims will stay looking fresher for longer than anodised ones.

You could just flat bar audax, no?

Absolutely ;)

I’ve been riding a lot of gravel on my gravel bike this week; two rides around the Borders/Lothians with friends on Monday and Tuesday, and a nice pootle around Aberfoyle today with Gabi (she rode a 200km audax yesterday so it was at party pace which was great because firstly, it was warm for the first time in months and secondly, I’m pretty knackered from four double shifts in a row at work).
Anyway, I’ve replaced the setback seatpost with an inline one, lowered the saddle a pinch and now I love the way it feels.
Next up on the gravel bike is replacing the tyres as they are shredded up and there is a slash on the sidewall that sort of seals but also let’s all the air out of the tyre after a few days. Against the advice of most on this forum, I’ll be sticking with Gravelkings as they’ve done me no wrong so far. They’ll be all black this time, though.

Love how the pump connects SP and the stem 💆🏻♂️

Thanks. I think it looks pretty good with the silver hubs as well.
More importantly is that it now feels just right. Before I was too stretched out and too high on the saddle which made anything but the smoothest gravel roads feel a bit sketchy. Now the reach is shorter and I'm in a lower position, I find I can move my body around easier on more technical terrain which makes me feel more confident.
A few other photos from Aberfoyle.

This looks absolutely superb (bike and location). I think even i would manage to get out on the weekend if i had scenery like that near by.
Is that an X4 stem and what degree is it please?

Which route did you follow at Aberfoyle? Only been there for the MTB gnarr but fancy something more chill with Mrs Run.

It’s just over an hour away from Edinburgh so not bad at all.
It is an X4 and it’s 10 degrees.

We did the following:
https://strava.app.link/NHiSYIa0Wxb
It’s two of the three waymarked Gravelfoyle routes, the Faerie Loop and the Lomond Loop. Then up to Loch Venachar via the NC cycle route and back along the loch side and then up over the Dukes Pass. It was Gabi’s first time off-road and she really enjoyed it.

I went to the Isle of Arran over the weekend to ride fixed gear bikes with a friend, the same friend who welded together my fixed gear frame.
He was going to ride his custom fixed gear thing but didn’t have time to take his spiked winter tyres off, so he rode his steamroller instead. Anyway, I forgot to take any photos of the bikes but here are some other photos.

And some more.
There was a lot of snow on the island when we arrived. Thankfully the roads were very well salted so there were no sketchy moments. It was cold but not as cold as we’d feared. There are two roads that cross over Arran and each one features a rather spicy climb. We did each of the climbs in both directions as well as the outer road that goes all the way around the island. The headwind was also rather spicy at times and now my legs are still sore.

Some of it was Type II but generally it was a blast ✌🏻
