I reckon I could make my bike a lot lighter, but - I don't really care how much it weighs.

I had to partially deflate the fork to get it in, so with the Madonna I'd definitely have to (likely fully) deflate it, regardless of wheelbase.

If you leave those things on the scale it'll be a lot lighter. You'll go faster too... to a point.
-

Deflate? Can you not just compress it using a toe strap from bridge to crown or something?
-
• #26032
Turn the fork backwards? If you've got the stem off anyway you can partially drop the fork to give the crown clearance while turning it

That puts the brake calliper in a sub-optimal position.
It's all in, and I think (I'll test this empirically of course) that it looks good.
-
• #26034
Way easier to deflate and then re-inflate.

It took me about 3 seconds to wrap a Voile strap around mine. Yours would be more supple and easier to compress, no? Anyway, it's packed now right. I'll go back to looking at bivy bags and insulated trousers...

Hope Pro5 dropped
I wonder if it's even louder

0.2 seconds to dab the valve core

It's going to sound very different!
I have a set of Pro4 waiting to be built up. I'm wondering whether to sell them quickly and order some Pro5. I wouldn't lose out ££ and I like the idea of faster engagement etc but Pro4 are so bombproof which I do love.

They increased the points of engagement so it'll be higher frequency but probably not louder.
-
• #26040
There's also an E-bike version which is the same hub but without the offset in the pawls so all 6 engage at once instead of 3. Wonder if that's louder and less buzzy

There's also an
E-bikehippy version -

My Profile fw is mad buzzy (6 pawls 140poe)

Do you not have a cap on it? My SID is a bastard to get off (looks at the guy that tightened it) and you've conveniently forgotten about the reinflation bit. Since I don't travel with my shock pump this wouldn't work for me unless I could be certain I could find a pump at the destination.
-

The thought alone of using someone else's shock pump has got Howard cowering in fear

One nice moment during the AMR was when I stopped in some valley to take a photo and there was no one around, no wind, nothing. It was just dead silent. It made me wish for a silent feehub. Additional benefits would be that I'd scare less wildlife and I'd be slightly more likely to hear when I dropped/broke stuff on the descents. :)

Onyx hubs or nothing these days. Total silence.
-
• #26047
Are they reliable and serviceable? I like my DT Swiss hubs coz they just work but if there's something as simple, strong and robust that's also silent... hmm... excuse for a new rear wheel.
