  • Oh really? I might ask them to refund me a bit then!

    Edit: didn't work for me

  • There’s always a lot of sparks at the front of xc marathon races from what I’ve seen. Partly this is because Scott sponsor some good ametuer Mtb racers and a lot of their staff race, but also a lot of buyers choose sparks.
Also I feel like a lot of the taller guys choose sparks for whatever reason, maybe no logic in that though.
I fancy an alloy one but I did wonder about the weight penalty.

This is not a concern for @hippy

  • Thank you - got my partner some trail cross

  • It’s not really for me either but we can dream right

  • has Hippy bought a scott spark yet?

  • Genius is more trail oriented. For folks who like to ride up the mountain then get wild on the way down.

    I’d like one

  • True dat. My steel hardtail setup has been >25kg loaded.

It's going to depend on weather but if I was to do it again I'd probably swap the insulated sleep pad for down pants and rain paints combo (because it's quicker and you can ride off in it to stay warm in the morning) and I'd swap out my big bivvy for a lighter sleeping bag protector of some sort or maybe just a ground sheet to keep it clean. That would save some weight and bulk.

I'd also get some of those Aerothan or Revoloop tubes instead of my big butyl tubes.

I'd probably run lighter, faster tyres (especially if I had a dualie) although the Ardent Race 2.35 worked pretty well. Just one sidewall cut.

I want to swap the clip-on bars for a more comfortable option (they were a bit last minute).

I could maybe trim down my tool kit/spares and ditch either the wall charger or the USB dynamo charger but they both seem useful.

I could look at buying lighter parts for some of the stuff but that's just more $$$

  • Not yet. I've got some other purchasing requirements before I n+1 again but it's high on my list.

The grrl's Bokeh has just gone in to get Di2 fitted so I'm dealing with that first.

  • Looks nice but it's probably too much bike for my 'gravel' riding and I'm probably needing a size up. Oh and it's covered in SRAM which I'd have to swap out. But it's a nice looking bike. Thanks

  • The khaki mids were in the Gretna outlet shop for £48 (sadly only in smaller sizes). I got some freerider pros for my youngest for £28 in the East Kilbride outlet before Christmas. Lots of stock dumping going on.

  • I wouldn't mind trying the high-ankle ones but the reviews question the durability of the newer Five Ten stuff so I'm not sure about 'em.

  • Again, only my experience but I've had the Terrex versions (three pairs) and they're very durable.

  • I think I got a year out of a pair of LTs, wearing them as riding and everyday trainers before they started to split across the toes where my foot flexes. Second pair (XTs) are going well.

  • My LTs are still going pretty well considering how light they are. One small hole in the toe (I kicked my pedal, tore a hole, my fault) and the sole is only just starting to gouge up. Not wearing them off the bike though.

  • Didn't work for me either but your ACTIVE10 did.

It says they fit half a size smaller. Does that mean I need to buy half a size up?

  • I'm an 11 in most shoe brands, and an 11 in these were spot on

  • I think they're true to size with a slightly narrow last (LT).

  • Delivery was very fast. Won't have a chance to try them for a bit though. punches rib

  • Same. Ordered Thurs afternoon and they arrived Sat morning.

  • Is it wrong that I want the high top ones as well? I'm turning into the Immelda Marcos of MTB flats.

  • Hope Pro5 dropped

  • Sorry to hear that. I hope you didn't damage it.

  • I'll damage you
