  • Starting to think a bit more about the peregrine. Unfortunately missed out on some klampers on here (thanks anyway @Nick_S). Also unfortunately moved the Stanton on as didn't do much mountain biking on it, and instead used it on 'gravel' rides which it was fine on, but the peregrine will suit more.

Genesis CDF might get 1x9 (microshift, something second hand?) and flat bars because once the singular is here, it won't do anything over 15km. It'll keep both front and back racks for commuting/shops.

Back to the peregrine. Got a the frame, blue hope H/S and a ritchey seatpost put aside from the bike shop. It'll be used for 'gravel' rides, touring with a rear rack, bikepacking and maybe heading out with Audax Club Bristol hopefully. Want to get stuff second hand where I can to keep cost reasonable.

Not sure what to do groupset or wheel wise. 1x or 2x. Think I'll get the shop to put me aside some nice 700x40 tyres and I'm leaning towards 2x. That should work well on and off road.

Might this groupset work with the flat mount frameset designed for 160mm discs?

  • Had a lot going on (mainly cowboy builder f**king up my flat as discussed on other threads and a lack of funds) so have had very shamefully had the Peregrine and all the bits (other than the wheels) sat in my room for about 9 months.

Posting up here so help me pull my finger out and get it finished.

    C+P from the wheelbuilding thread

After some advice on what I should get and from where wheel wise. Needs to take cyclescheme.

The bike can clear max 622x55mm (29×2.1”).

    My requirements are
    1) 700c
    2) decent front dynamo (keep hearing son if the only real option)
    3) ability to run 35-50c tubeless tyres - to go from 'gravel' to audax as location and riding changes.
    4) strong!

Pic of the frame anyway and I'll dig the bits out. Will be built up by the local mechanic I use

  • Some lovely bikes in here! Cannondale looks great & looking forward to seeing the Singular built up.

  • Enjoyed flicking through this thread and seeing some familiar spots.

Give me a PM – I'm sure I can sort you out with tyres if you don't have some already.

  • cheers. Deposit down on wheels which is good and the shop (John Woods in Hanham for any Bristol folk) and kindly going to build it FOC as an offer

  • Wheel wise: Son front, hope rear, velocity cliff hanger rims, sapim race spokes, brass nipples, 32H I believe

Tyres - not sure what to get. Looking for 700 x 45 or 700 x 50 tan wall that will be good mainly off road

Also front dynamo light not sure what to get. Not had dynamo before. Pencilled in a Busch and Muller one but I am not sold on a light being on the whole time (appreciate it is being powered anyway so it is harmless). Other option talked about so far is the son edelux 2.

No internal routing for a rear light. Can fit one anyway - maybe later

  • cheers :) all good for tyres I think if it was from an earlier comment.

  • Having dynamo lighting is absolutely awesome. It might initially seem less powerful than a mega-lumens battery job, but it's focused where it needs to be and is plenty bright/strong enough for being seen. Son Edelux II is great, and I think the B&M is very good too (a few models to choose from - they nearly all do have a standlight but you definitely want a standlight). Took me a while to hook up a rear dynamo light, wish I'd done it ages ago.

The Edelux II and I'm sure other models can be switched to light sensor mode, so they aren't on in daylight, but come on when light levels get low, i.e. tunnels, dusk, night time.

  • Interested to see this built up

On dynamo headlights, my B&M IQ-XS has been faultless, and I think having it on all the time is a positive. Never bad to be more visible to drivers

Pretty sure it automatically runs less bright in daytime too

  • cheers, just need to pick one now. Should look like this.
I reckon <2 weeks til all done hopefully

  • Tyres - going for Teravail Rutlands 700 x 47

  • Few updates.
Bought a singular osprey, cheap, and really enjoying it. Parts aren't special at all but it is really comfy
Any 28c slick tyres for sale?

  • And then the peregrine. Nightmare. LBS ordered some velocity cliff hanger rims via BLB, which 2.5 months later still aren't here. Gone for some DCR rims which are now laced up to a pro 5 rear hub and a nice son dynamo front hub.

Was supposed to collect it today but the right hand side lever I had for it from the set is fractured. Not fixable apparently, so need a new 105 11 speed hydraulic/mechanical STI lever (think ST-7025 but not 100% on that). Also the 105 front mech I had didn't work with the chainring size so had to buy a GRX one.

  • Peregrine is done. The lever which was broken was off here about a year ago and just sat in a box - so the crack didn't get spotted until it was ready to be built up - so that was another bill.

Will add some more pics later (phone uploading them to google drive as HEIF which the uploader isn't liking) but here's a couple and the initial mood board

Old chalk way in a few weeks with some mates is the first proper trip for it. Got some old revelate bags which should fit from my old sherpa

  • rode past you on your basket bike last Monday on North Street on it @JacqueLucque I believe

  • Green Viking? Could be me! I am a North Street dweller too.

  • Yep + silver basket! Nice bike

  • Strange the bike shop didn’t try and help you with that. It’s a known fault and madison normally warranty it without asking questions.

  • I love it – a great big stupid whippy noodle.

I recently swapped the wheels to some £5 FB Marketplace beaters from the nice H+Son jobbies @passhunting kindly gave me and immediately regretted it. Swapping back to the original ones is a job for this weekend. It deserves the best!
