I fancy an alloy one but I did wonder about the weight penalty.
This is not a concern for @hippy

True dat. My steel hardtail setup has been >25kg loaded.
It's going to depend on weather but if I was to do it again I'd probably swap the insulated sleep pad for down pants and rain paints combo (because it's quicker and you can ride off in it to stay warm in the morning) and I'd swap out my big bivvy for a lighter sleeping bag protector of some sort or maybe just a ground sheet to keep it clean. That would save some weight and bulk.
I'd also get some of those Aerothan or Revoloop tubes instead of my big butyl tubes.
I'd probably run lighter, faster tyres (especially if I had a dualie) although the Ardent Race 2.35 worked pretty well. Just one sidewall cut.
I want to swap the clip-on bars for a more comfortable option (they were a bit last minute).
I could maybe trim down my tool kit/spares and ditch either the wall charger or the USB dynamo charger but they both seem useful.
I could look at buying lighter parts for some of the stuff but that's just more $$$
There’s always a lot of sparks at the front of xc marathon races from what I’ve seen. Partly this is because Scott sponsor some good ametuer Mtb racers and a lot of their staff race, but also a lot of buyers choose sparks.
Also I feel like a lot of the taller guys choose sparks for whatever reason, maybe no logic in that though.
