I don't disagree, I just balk at mixing Campy with Shimano!

I’d have thought Dirty Dogs were more Surly (maybe just for a 1x) ;)

too sleek and aero-looking for a Straggler?
Yes

Gahhhh I think I agree

Congratulations to Surly as they have made a 2014 CdF.

It's a cheap bike that's not cheap. Tbh I think with a better looking fork it would be fine as the new cross check

Congratulations to Surly as they have made a worse Straggler.

Also the cross check is iconic, single speed dropouts, rim brake, cool etc.
This surley can't be replacing that?

preamble flatbar is like £1050 for a full build, this will be very popular with the commuter who works in a large city, drinks at brewdog, eats at mildreds and spends the weekend doing some hobby which is actually more an expression of class than an activity

Not quite sure what the preamble achieves over any of the other similar looking surlys with disc brakes, but it’s marketing I suppose.
If they kill the cross check I would be seriously tempted to buy a frame to keep in the loft just for whenever I next think to myself ‘I need to build a cross check’ again. It is inevitable.

Making me rethink my rockhopper option!

Or an Intec F10

Just done this, it arrived a week or so ago. I reckon these will be the last batch of cross-check frames personally.
Although I’ve built mine up as an SSCX bike though, rather than keep it in the loft!

I emailed them in November about the cross check and they confirmed that.
edit:
"To answer your question, at this time we aren't expecting new Cross-Check complete models or framesets, unfortunately. While we haven't completely discontinued this model, what currently is in-market is what is available for Cross-Check." -

because not every bike needs to be everything to everyone.

Seems pretty sensible to me, and given the comments on a lot of blogs etc, something that people are interested in at the $899 price tag. Shame it's over £1000 in the UK though.

Such a pity that Surly have discontinued their rim brake offerings - Pacer, Crosscheck and Pack Rat. I suppose discs are the way the cycling industry is pushing. A pity, as I would not be able to sort out any problems with a hydraulic set-up. I wouldn't know where to begin!
Get some Campagnolo rotors if you can. By far the best looking rotors out there.
