That looks like fun. I have the old deck and rack mounts, but where could I find one of these, or suggestions for alternatives?

Yes that's not a bad call actually, could be bent in a vice and isn't too pricey. Thank you!
Edit: they say they don't have stock, which is a shame. Any other ideas? Cheers. -

Get yourself down to a B&Q.
They sell metal strip.
Put a 90deg bend in one end, measure how long you need, cut, assemble, mark only 1 hole position, drill, fit bolt.
Done.

I’ll bet your local will have a few of these lying around, wouldn’t hurt to ask.
Whups, meant for @souldoubt -

Good idea, I'll ask around, failing that in the nature of hacks/bodges I'll figure something out. Thanks for input all.

SJS bound to have something like that.

I have searched SJS but didn't come up with anything. Maybe I was using the wrong search terms or something ? I'm not UTFS properly !

I’d just browse through the rack spares section rather than try search for it but I’ve had a look and not much there right enough.
Lots with a 90deg twist to mount a rear rack to seat stays but nothing for a front rack.

These could probably work off you can put a bend in them.

Very smart. Would love to have a workshop and bits of metal etc, & welding gear and the skills of course !

Bought big tires for my mountain bike, then suddenly freaked out about the absence of "safety hook" (no idea how they are called) to my front (canti) brakes. I was hoping to eBay some basic black plastic thingy but didn't find anything (didn't look very thoroughly to be honest). So to keep my mind at peace, I made a hook out of a stainless steel spoke, with a bit of heat shrink sleeve.

That’s ace, nice job

Surely with that style of “straddle” cable (where the cable goes from brake lever to the brake with the anchor bolt) there is no need for a safety hook? If the straddle cable was a more traditional one that goes from brake to brake, the need would be there?
-
• #2772
Yes, someone else said this to me... But when I freed up the cable at the lever (I.e. as if the cable snapped), the cables do rest on the hook so I guess it would still help?
