The Fellow on York Way is good for heated rooftop covered seating area if you're into that there smoking.
The Star of Kings for slightly moodier vibes a bit further up.
I quite like the Harrison down Grays Inn Road, off the beaten track and do some great live music downstairs from time to time.
A bit further, but the Duke on Doughy Mews is an art deco gem, run by a hilariously bad/grumpy landlady, it is a bit of a local institution and you'll see/meet all sorts in there.

Depends what you want, there's a lot of options of different types.
I'd second the Harrison, the Queens Head is also nice in the same type of area. Kings Charles I is a good, old school pub, Scottish Stores has decent beers. The Betjeman and the Parcel Yard are both surprisingly decent station pubs.

I'd second the Queen's Head - terrific juicer.

Cheers - all - good intel. Queens Head looks perfecto for my purposes.

Queens Head often has a nice open fire. So nice in the winter..

A bit optimistic but does Luton have any good pubs? Consensus so far appears to be no. Looking for somewhere central.

Bricklayers on Hightown road is good. Probably the best 'proper' pub near the station. You up for the bunley game?

Cheers, the link did something weird but seemed to find it. Looks decent from the pictures.
Yep, it's a popular one. Away tickets sold out in ten minutes.

I swapped it for a trip advisor one, was trying to link location and reviews on google. There are a few other decent real ale pubs around the centre of town, great northern is decdent but tiny. Can't really vouch for how they are on matchday, though.

Bricklayers used to be OK for away fans, though I haven't tested that out in a fair few years.

anyone islington way can confirm or deny if the Charles Lamb is now permanently closed?
-

Saw something on Twitter to the effect it was closed but there was some campaign to try and prevent the planners ripping out the kitchen or something.

I’ve just had a couple of pints in our lovely nice South London local on the way home from town ….. read the latest London Drinker while I was there …. seems to be full of places closing , luxury flat developments going up - even more than usual …. very depressing

Reading the London Drinker is the dead-tree equivalent of doom scrolling.

I did try and drink loads more just so at least one local pub is able to pay this weeks rent … !

Recommendations for decent pub that won't be showing the rugby next Saturday? (Or it won't be all over the pub). Ideally near Waterloo or Battersea power station.
-

The Kings Arms on Roupell St. The best pub near to Waterloo and they never used to show sport, although might be worth checking.

I can report back that pubs in Luton are mainly shit. Bricklayers Arms was home fans only but went in after the match and was decent. Went to another 4 or so and they were all shit, including the wetherspoons which was possibly the biggest pub I've ever been to.

Cheers, definitely on the (very small) list.

Not sure if here or a food thread, but we had Sunday lunch at The Marksman not so long ago. Don't really go out for roasts, but really excellent, and the honey tart is a big winner

Where's good for a pint in Shoreditch? Nothing too swanky ideally!
McGlynns / King Charles I both good old school pubs
