I'd have thought the House of Lords seemed right up Johnson's street. The prestige and the money without having to do any work.

£330 / day attendance allowance won't touch the sides for him (£250k was "chicken feed")
-
• #3080
Johnson moving seats would be seen as a chicken run knowing he's going to loss his current seat. That being said Johnson being in the party is only going to make them more dysfunctional.
He's going to end up with a recall petition after the privileges committee investigation. He could fight that seat again, but there would be a very high chance he'd loss and if he can't win his own seat his supports will start to move on.

We can only hope

I think attending will be too big an ask. at least as an mp his salary is dependent on anything.

If all 7 if his kids are going to private school or planning to go to private school he needs to earn £210k per year before tax just to pay their school fees (based on £10k per term).
-
• #3084
Only if he is paying 100% of the fees. Their other parent might also pay some.
-
• #3085
Even if he's paying half (media reports suggest his maintenance payments are higher than half) it's over £100k per year. It's a large financial burden.
Edit: Didn't realise that he only finalised his divorce settlement with Marina Wheeler in 2020. Was reported to be in the millions.

Think I saw something that said his kids with Wheeler are in state schools.
-
• #3087
His older children have already left school.
-
• #3088
I think most of them are too old to be in school now tbh. The general point still stands. The man paid £2m+ out in a divorce settlement less than 2 years ago and has a bunch of young kids. Lifes going to be expensive for him even before he gets to his wallpaper and takeaways.
-
• #3089
I wonder if his older kids are paying for their own uni costs?
-
• #3090
If they've learnt anything from their father of course not.
-
• #3091
Everyone else will be paying for them.
Edit: too slow

Remember during the election when people weren't allowed to ask how many Johnson offspring there were?

He's been raking it in recently according to theyworkforyou.com - https://www.theyworkforyou.com/mp/10999/boris_johnson/uxbridge_and_south_ruislip#register
Over £2m declared since October - including £510k advance for an upcoming book yet to be published ("Hours: approx. 10 hrs to date") -

Only because at one point he wasn't too sure

Yeah, probably too focussed on delivering those 40 new hospitals we are all enjoying now.

got me wondering what the cost is:
How much do private school fees cost?
According to the Financial Times, the average fee for independent schools is currently £15,191 per child per year, increasing to £36,000 for children who board. And this is likely to rise significantly. School fees tend to increase at a higher rate than inflation, so it may get more difficult to send your children to private school. Finding ways to bring down the cost is crucial for many families. -
• #3097
So if you board from 6 to 18 at an average school (by fees) then it'll cost £432k.
eaton is £15,432 per term currently. they estimate extras to be 500-1000 per half term. so that is £555,552 plus £36k to £72k in extras.
On a £156,000 salary, your take home pay will be £92,052 after tax and National Insurance. This equates to £7,671 per month and £1,770 per week. If you work 5 days per week, this is £354 per day, or £44 per hour at 40 hours per week.
That's the fees only for 2 kids

per half term
A "half" is what they call a term

Didn't he backtrack on this and say that there were only due to be 5 and the rest were being upgraded?
"We didn't start the fire...."
