  • For balance, 6 months ago we had to provide a tonne of old bank data to our solicitor explaining any transactions over 5k for the past 5 years on all of our 5+ bank accounts. It was a major ball ache and felt very invasive. I'm not a criminal/drug dealer/always been UK resident and have a very dull and steady job for ref so there should have been no grounds for it.

At the end of the day the solicitor has to prove that youre legit if theyre challenged in the future, its on their head if they hadn't done enough background checking. I wouldn't think into it too much, it probably indicates that you have a good solicitor if anything.

  • Gotta be Park no?

  • This is more fun that the current state of the News thread.

  • Pleased to hear it!

  • It's one of Lee or Park. Forum OGs will remember my old username and pfp that included it :-D

  • Probably not given that you have my first name, although in the last 10 years and 5,000 comments I've already posted more than enough for anyone determined to doxx me.

  • Their advice is to just rent something

TBF all the IFAs I used to know who semi-remote worked to Spain said something similar. Planning, and selling a property you own as a foreigner seems rigged against you in Spain. However, the 20k Granada property is a different prospect due to the low value.

  • I put fifty large ones down on our first flat and I don’t recall any particular checks as to its provenance. I mean I handed over 3months of bank statements and payslips but that unfortunately/obviously(?) didn’t cover all of that amount. 2014

  • Things have got a fair bit stricter since 2014.

  • That's really odd that you are getting so much grief from all the firms, I tried to use somebody
who was recommended on here but they had moved out of London and got me the number of another firm which I then used and had no problems. That's with an eastern European name, no Uk citizenship and most of the money coming from Germany.
They only asked were the money came from later in the process and not at the start and I could only get statements going back 2 years even though they asked for 5 initially.
But I paid around 2.5k in 2017 so maybe I bought their silence.

  • Aren't there a lot of people for HK relocating to the Uk recently and even before that a lot of
properties were sold to Chinese investors?

  • Don’t sweat it man. If they’re this shit at the start imagine how shit they’ll be at actually doing the work. You wouldn’t want to appoint anyone with that attitude even if you had a beautiful British surname.

  • @ExTra - we have used Karen Fulton at blackadders.co.uk for two purchases in the last 5 years, one of which "had" to be completed within 3 month due relocation.

She's based on Glasgow but I think I only saw her once and that was as I was nearby so it was easier - both properties were in Glasgow which is how we came to find her (she changed firm on our second purchase but we still went with her as she was so good)

I would only ever go with her. She's straight talking and just gets stuff done. I don't really know if location matters but worth giving her a call.

**Disclaimer - I cannot be held responsible for inevitable fucks ups, recommendation was based on my experience.
