I think he has, he thought the plebs would never know and even now it is out, doesn't seem to have much traction in the msm and appears likely blow over unless the media have a change of heart and decide to go after him more dogedly
I viewed him as one of the more competent ministers despite his dodgy expense claims but this is a massive piss take

If nothing untoward happened as claimed, he’s paid up for reasons he’s not prepared to explain. Alleged wrong doing difference aside, the Queen’s favourite son did similar. I don’t know about anyone else but I take these honourable men - too honourable in Prince Andrew’s case - at their word.
But does Zahawi not realise, even if his story is believed, it looks opaquely furtive at best? I guess he doesn’t give a shit, will just try to style it out. And from recent events, he’s got a fair chance of pulling that off
