What about these? Prod them in and pull out if you need to clean the gutter. Would be quicker I imagine and wouldn’t get bunged up half as quickly, if at all.

Back on the Wallpaper stripper again today.
Our plasterer does traditional lime stuff and with the weather turning cold again next week, can finally slot us in. Getting the first floor of the hallway up to the loft done. I absolutely hate stripping wallpaper but stripping to a tight deadline is next level shit.

I have one lounge light on a loop/circuit that's stopped working.
It's not the bulb & tried replacing the whole fitting driver/control gear.
There's power going to it as if I plug a bulb in with it on lights slightly but then goes off.
However, if I just hit the switch it does nothing.I've run out of ideas perhaps time to call someone who knows what they are doing....

Put the stair gate somewhere else (like 1 step away), and make that section good with filler.

Is there a punch that is rectangular not round to set brad steel nails below floorboard level?
everything seems to round/centre punch but you would think that all those rectangular nail heads in last century floorboards would have meant a tool for that job was available? -

I think some of the Japanese ones have a square end on them?
I’ve never got on with them though - i’d choose my round ended one given the choice, seem to work well for me (i’ve had the same Stanley set for years, the fattest one only ever gets used on cut nails) -

A screwdriver filed down a little may do the job.

I did this to hundreds of sock-shredding brads in prep for floor sanding; just used a normal round-headed punch, worked fine.

I’m looking for a new cooker extractor with a low noise profile.
Found the Luxair Moda range with brushless motors and very good specs, but suspiciously cheap when compared to similarly-specced Miele or whatever.
Anyone experienced the Luxair, or quiet alternatives?
-
• #39265
I have a feeling our extractor is Luxair. I’ve had a look at it but there is not brand name visible. It’s quiet and we have had no issues over the past 18 months with it. You may be able to match the pic with a Luxair.

Anyone got experience with painting stairs with MDF treads? Seems the risers are actual wood. Would have some sort of runner up the middle. Didn't realise MDF treads were actually a thing! I mean, is it practical to live with MDF painted stairs?!?

I don't have any advice on painting them, but think painted treads and wood risers will look nice :)

That looks like a very calm and peaceful bedroom, well done.

I hadn't considered that but think that's a brilliant idea! Will see what sort of condition they're in when all the carpet comes off next weekend!

All the wallpaper is now off as is the radiator in the upper hallway. Discovered a bonus disused single socket behind the radiator that had been wallpapered over 😊Seems like a safe combo. I forgot that Gira switches need a deeper back box so some chasing took place.
As is always customary when the paper comes off, I discovered a small amount of moisture at the very top so the roofers will come and put some lead flashing where there isn't any.
Roll on the plasterer tomorrow. I'll be very happy the day I strip the last bit of paper from this house! Such an absolute house of bodges.

Where can I find all of the chat about which foundations are best for a garden room? Just had a quote in for £3,500 for a base so I think i'm going to have to do it myself.
I'm leaning to concrete slab but am also considering a screwed in base as I could lose a lot of hardcore in there. Good for circulation too but a bit worried about rodents getting in underneath it.
Thought about that, but inevitability stuff will get in and then it’d be even harder to clear out I’d have thought?
