Sorry when I read kitchen set I thought there was a joke in there about a French maid or something to wear in the kitchen, but got distracted and didn't get around to giving some sort of intro/context.
Anyway carry on.
The micata handle procook stuff looks like gvfm.

Genuine link this time:
https://www.procook.co.uk/product/professional-x50-micarta-chefs-knife-15cm-6inI'm tempted by the 6" chef knife to replace my massive sabatier, but not sure about replacing a one chef knife with another.

Being sick over Christmas meant I had a lot more hobby time than I was expecting.
Set myself the goal of making a sheath/protector for my new knife out of wood.
Traced blade, scanned, sketched in freecad, padded it into a model of the blade (using thickest part for simplicity). designed actual sheath body and subtracted blade shape from interior.
Thought it would make sense to 3d print it before moving on to transferring the design to CNC to make out of either ply, cherry or birch in two pieces to be glued. Glad I did! This 30% pine 3d printing filament is fantastic. Not going to bother taking this to the CNC...its breathable and soft so I think its perfect for a carbon steel blade.

Yes but I was wrong, this filament is 40% wood.
Smells of wood, easy to sand. Easy to print. The only downside is that it wears your print nozzle a bit but nozzles are cheap.
Edit: can take stain and polish too apparently.

I made these sheaths the traditional way to replace the plastic ones the knives came with.
Wet moulded vegetable tanned leather, dyed and sewn by hand.

Any one seen ‘The Bear’ on Netflix? First episode where someone hides the chef’s prized knife on the floor under the cooker triggered me (and him) to fuck.
Ps. Top work! @Stonehedge @adroit

The "wood" PLA I've used is bamboo fibre and the colour varies according to the print temperature. This was a few years ago (early covid lockdown) and the world has probably moved on?
It takes spirit based stains quite well and accepts polyurethane varnish - water based acrylic varnish tends to bead and looks cloudy when dry.
Photo is clearly not knife related, but does show how a stain can pick out the print layers to give a wood(ish) effect.

Accidentally bought a Victorinox ‘Rucksack’ knife (0.8863). Feels nice and large, but at the same time that plastic they use on the handles feels awful compared to the older solid plastic. Or is it just me?
Haven’t decided which location it will live, in relation to all the others dotted about.

I was expecting a hefty repair bill on my van, but as it ended up costing a fraction of what I expected I blew the money I’d put aside on a new knife.
A Rockstead Hizen.
Fortunately it’s second hand so I saved a large amount of cash compared to a new one.
I’ve been looking for things to whittle all day.

Wow. V nice
Ha. They say that they were inspired by this
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3028388
But also say they haven't been dicks because they "designed it from the ground up from scratch".
Hmmm
