  • Circlips.

    Fucking Campag..

  • I can see it (I think) but I can't see where the gap is. Looks like it has two sticky outy bits. Will need a closer look.

  • Pull one sticky outy bit, you'll see the rest wrapping round to the other one, pop that fucker off.

  • Does this need to be done before undoing the allen key bolt or will undoing that bolt make getting to the circlip easier?

  • It doesn't really matter, I usually undo the 10mm, forget about the circlip until the crank won't come out, then remove the circlip.

  • If you've not got pliers you can probably get a small flathead or awl under the sticky outy bit and prise it off, they're not usually stuck.

  • Guess I could've just watched this:

The on-screen message doesn't fill me with confidence.

  • You'll need a FH-BUU015X1 freehub. About £60 and upwards.

  • super useful thanks both

  • What's everyone's favourite grease gun?

I lubed a pedal earlier and more grease came out the back of my old Lifeline gun than the front so I want to replace it with something. I know Park one works. Dualco probs the same thing? Weldtite do one but last time I ordered one the end was busted so I've never used it. Figure same issue as Lifeline.

  • Dualco Mini is ace.

  • Chucked on my to-buy list.

Campag Ekar cranks are 10mm allen but I don't have one long enough to fit down into the stupid Hirth joint thingie so looks like they're going for a ride.

Fuck Campag and their "you definitely won't have the tool for this" designs.

  • Next Fucking Campag™ question: their cassettes look like the Shimano tool will fit but obviously it won't, so I presume there's a Campshit specific tool for cassette removal too? A tool that no one within 80mi of me will have?

  • Reply to @hippy
Im confused. The EKAR cassette manual recommends the UT-BB080 tool, and that tool is described as:
"This tool fits all campagnolo cassette lockrings."

I've got a Miche disc wheel with a 11sp Chorus cassette on it, and a Campag cassette Powertap wheelset also with 11sp Chorus. At least one of them 100% has an original Chorus lockring, and I'm equipped only with your bog-standard Lifeline cassette tool.

  • I think the days of Campag lockrings needing a different tool are over aren’t they?

  • Can you use the long end (hopefully not ball ended) then use an adjustable spanner on the shorter end for leverage?

  • There is a tool, but a shimano freewheel tool is close enough.

  • My two are ball-ended. I'm giving this groupset back so I'm not going to do anything that might damage to it. I'll leave it with the LBS to deal with.

  • As above, I don't want to force any incorrect tools into bits that I'm handing back. The Shimano tool seemed close but not close enough.

I will need to get a Shimano freehub for Hunt 650B wheel I guess unless the 13s Campag is the same spline pattern.

  • The Shimano cassette tool won't work but the freehub one will, but you may not have one of those anyway. The ball ended would probably be fine too, especially with your highly finessed technique, but best not to risk it to save a couple of minutes on a bike they're already working on.

  • If you have two ball ended hex keys, chop the ball off. It's hex shaped all the way up so you can trim it

    Gasps

  • I’ve got a specific 10 mm tool for Campag you can have. Probably have a cassette lock ring tool too.

  • It would touch and go whether it'd be quicker for me to drop it to a shop than dremel through my allen key but I like your style.
