Thanks. Giving this a go. My DIY skills aren’t up to much so hopefully this is a good one!

Recommendation for a reusable commuting travel (rather than camping travel) cup? Want some insulation (get coffee, take kid to sports, drink coffee while standing on side of hockey/ pitch / xc running in the rain )
The keepcup helix looks perfect on paper, but reviews say the lid leaks

Have one of these and rate it. Can’t say if it’s leaky or not as I’ve never really put it to the test.

More mini-thermos vibe but I really, really like my Hario V60 Soto. Lip on the lid is super ergonomic and means you won't spill driving over a pothole ever.
Downsides: keeps stuff super hot, does need the lid off for a bit if you actually want to drink in the first hour.

Really like my Yeti - good size, keeps things warm, and good balance of drinkability/security from the sliding lid.

Kinto Travel Tumbler is faultless.

Thanks all - I'm likely the look of the yeti

I've got one of these I use regularly, doesn't leak, keeps things hot for ages.
Was good enough for Rapha, is good enough for me.

I’ve also bought my wife one of these for Xmas,
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265912082128
On the recommendation of my brother, but it’s definitely not water tight (has a small breathing hole in the lid) but he really rates them as just a decent mug to drink out of.
Designed to fit in most cup holders too. -

Another vote for the Kinto Travel Tumbler.

I've bought my girlfriend a yeti mug, she's not used it but it looks well made.

Are you even a real person if you don’t have a cupboard full of various travel coffee mugs/bottles/thermos?
-
• #23566
I only ever drink coffee from a china or porcelain cup when sitting down. Drinking a hot drink on the go/take-away is just coarse and the behaviour of fanatics.

Switched to a bottomless (ooh er) portafilter recently. It sprays around a lot, makes a right mess sometimes even if I raise the cup up so it’s closer. Is there a way around this?
-
• #23569
Get better with your puck prep. It's one of the useful things about a bottomless portafilter - you can see issues much more clearly.
-
• #23570
I was hoping the answer wouldn’t involve Hoffman-esque fannying around. Dammit
-
• #23571
Sprays through the portafilter or from around it?
-
• #23572
It sprays out of the bottom a bit. 95% of ends up in the cup, it’s just the mess the 5% create is annoying. It’s not spraying out from where the top of it locks into the machine

• #23573
you may need to up the weight/fineness of the grind, tamping it harder and you could also try a puck screen.
-
• #23574
I have been doing some 21g doses with a fairly fine grind. Maybe they were the ones where it didn’t spray. I’ll need to pay more attention to when it sprays and when it doesn’t and what doses I was using

Aah, it’s too early in the day but I really fancy one now. Thanks a lot!
