  • Sounds like a Bake Picking Club to me

  • Bake Picking

    Sticker

  • It's already a thing, but I'll consider doing a sticker ✋

  • I like Cake Club Cycling Club, but sounds a bit too much Mumsnet for my liking.
And if we were to form CCCC, then bar tape of choice should be PDW Doughnuts.

  • Acquiring Cake, Adjacent Bicycling.

  • I don't ride a big enough frame for all these stickers.
    ACAB
    ATAC
    DBAD
    CCCC
    BPC
    Do like an acronym though.

  • Really good! I like the mix of black and silver parts. Could do with a silver seatpost I reckon.

  • I thought so too, but the black was what I had in the shed, I should imagine it'll be a long term place holder.

  • Mattnav took his Cross Check on its maiden outing on Sunday morning, unfortunately I wasn't able to go due to decorating commitments (fucking hate decorating).
    He loves it! Phew.
Couple of minor details for me to sort out,

    1. Seems I may have wrapped the bar tape too tight, the delicate little flower needs a bit more cushioning under his hands, easy fix.
    2. Dropped chain on the outside of the outer ring, front derailleur needs fettling.

I advised he go on a gentle, flatish ride for his first outing after recovering from his chest infection, and to get familiar with his new bike, 25 miles or so......
But no, our plucky hero went and did 40+ miles, with 3000ft of climbing, and now feels like shit again!

    When will these youngsters learn?

  • Our first outing together since we built Mattnav's Cross Check up.

A bit bloody cold this morning, frosty roofs on the houses opposite. Brrrr!

Our usual route, with a couple of minor deviations, the last one being my choice, not my best idea, hedge cutting in progress, 1 puncture leading to a 10 minute walk (we were close to Matt's, so it was quicker to walk than to repair), could have been worse, I could have had the puncture!

Wincle brewery didn't let us down, in-house made crimble cake (with a dash of their crimble ale in it), a HTB each.

    Happy days.

  • Been away for a while, but lovely to check back in and see this thread still regularly updated (esp. with tea and cake). Matt's Cross check looking great and nice to see Winston v1 rolling again (AND with friction shifters, dreamy - surely it has to be a move to 9 speed rapid rise next???). Great work.

  • I'm quite happy with 10spd for now, but do occasionally look for rapid rise rear derailleurs.
So glad I built it back up, just need to decide on a colour (powder coating, probably late spring/early summer '23).
Me n Matt both seem to be enjoying our bikes at the moment, which is nice.

  • I wonder if you couldn't convince a 9-speed rapid rise to cover a 10-speed casette..

  • I have been wondering that too. Once I've sorted somewhere to live I'll give it further consideration.

  • Sounds like sensible plan!

  • It would appear Shimano 9 speed and 10 speed cassettes are the same width, so running friction shifters (as I do) should mean there would be no problem.

  • That's what I thought.
Even if they're not excactly the same, there should be some wiggle room with adjusting the set screws.

  • Tasks for this week:

    Sorting somewhere to live. ✓
Look into Rapid Rise rear derailleurs. ✓
Purchase Rapid Rise rear derailleurs. ✓

  • think there’s a rapid rise on @walkmanman’s rad MTB sales thread…

  • So there is. Already pulled the trigger on a couple on evilbay, one nos LX 580, the other XTR.
    Cheers though.

  • I think I was watching the XTR one. Hopefully you got the seller offer?

  • Paid £80 for the two I got, so free postage on one of, more or less.

  • Both rapid rise derailleurs arrived today.
Just gotta decide which bike gets LX and which gets XTR.

  • Can confirm XTR 9 speed rear derailleur and Riv friction shifters work lovely on a 10 speed cassette.

  • Great news - I find mixing components successfully quite satisfying, like finding cheats in old video games.

Successful week I’d say. Hope the living situation is sorted, too!
