Not playing this down by any stretch, but did you have a panic attack?
-
• #27203
No, definitely wasn't that. Had woken up in the night with burning and pain in my lungs and I was a bit short of breath in the morning. Nothing more than a slight cough now.
-
• #27204
Christ! When you said it was on your lungs I did wonder what that meant, I mean I've had a constant cough but no sensation in my chest or lungs to speak of.
Was hoping for a big wake up and feel better moment but no, feeling much better but suspect this is just going to be a tedious and disappointing week of feeling progressively less rough, denying me my big MISSION ACCOMPLISHED moment

One of my colleagues in China has COVID for the first time and he's sick as a dog. Bit worried about him actually...first time he's not turned up to a meeting in three years afaik.

Day 6, now feels like heavy cold and tired, as I am hero/mug I decided to return to work (office jockey) sat on a Teams call and just completely zoned out, no ability to concentrate, gonna be a long week
-
• #27207
Also day 6, sounds familiar, all the worst symptoms are gone now but still feel groggy, heavy, still coughing
-
• #27208
Take more time off.
I hate office heroics anyway, but Covid is a potentially serious disease and the research suggests that you're more likely to get long Covid if you don't rest up, which includes recovery.

We've both tested positive this morning with SureScreen tests, but negative on two other brands (Xiamen Biotime and Orient Gene). Have got symptoms, which is why we did tests, but mild and cold-like.
What to think? As I understand it, the math says we're more likely to be positive, as false negatives are much more likely than false positives.

Exactly that. Assume you have it. Report the result via the app to allow others to make an informed choice if they want to. Rest up and drink plenty of fluids.

👍🏻 Thanks, don't know why I was asking as I know this really!
Feel like I've gone downhill a bit in the last two hours or so, so I will be doing this. Hoping that faint lines + mild symptoms = quick recovery.

Had an email from a chinese client the other day apologising for not coming back to us. Saying that with the relaxation of covid protocols everyone is now catching it for the first time and they're all at home sick.

Also finally caught it. I had a flu/cold general winter shitness last week, then misses got actual C19 for the first time last week, hit her really hard for a few days, now clear enough to function. Then few days ago I also got the C19, so i'm now over 2 weeks of being knocked sideways. Annoying more than anything as December is a busy and action packed month for me!
Quite amazing managed near 3 full years without getting it, either of us, me customer facing + travel around a lot, and my misses is healthcare, patient facing, about 20 cm from the general populations faces 20 times a day.
Vaccines + years of it adapting means whilst having flu/C19 isn't fun, it was not as horrific as many have experienced over the years.
BTW anyone on the paxlovid trials, prepare for your mouth to taste like a super concentrated version of the smell you get when you open a fresh (?!) box of latex gloves mixed with babysick on a hot plastic seat. It doesn't come from the taste of the pill touching your mouth, more the way it affects smell + taste receptors, genuinely horrible.

Have come down with something horrible - more likely flu I think as my mum has it and she was helping me out with childcare last week.
Anyway whatever it is, it’s bad and a lot worse than the bought of Covid (thanks Soft Play!) we had earlier this year. Hopefully the rest of us won’t get it.
Do not recommend

There's some nasty non c19 shit going about it seems.

• #27217
Yep, things that start as a cold and last with 3 weeks with chest infection/weakness.

Least it's given me some headspace to fuck up I mean do my tax return

I got this. Started getting worried I was in the for the long haul, but ping - after three weeks my mojo came back. Got a bit worried work thought I was taking the piss - but then the boss got it too - so all good.

From the perspective of the boss perhaps it is perhaps not all good ;)

My team of 20 in Shanghai currently has 12 people off sick with covid and another 5 working from home as they have covid but aren't ill. Very very difficult to buy paracetamol or anything like that. It's a total, total shit show. Local governments are telling people to go back to work even if they're sick - one of my team called me to ask if he can stay at home until he's better (obvs I said yes).
There's a run on paracetamol etc here in Singapore as mainland Chinese are buying it all to send back to China. -

It's going to be awful. Lots of old people not properly vaccinated - I can't remember the figure for sure but I think only 40% of old folk have been fully vaccinated. And that's with Chinese-made vaccines which are nowhere near as effective as the ones we've got.

If you're sick but think it's not Covid (hi @Howard ) make sure you do a test with more than one brand of lateral flow kit.
We've got it and happened to test first with SureScreen - both positive. Started out with darker lines and has been fading, as you'd expect - other half tested negative today.
But we did tests after the first positive with Orient Gene and the blue and white NHS ones (Xiamen Biotime) which came back totally clear. Swabbed throat and nose for all tests.
False positives seem extremely unlikely as it's both of us and having had Covid three times now there are certain symptoms/feelings I recognise.
All this said I had the flu thing that's been going round in November and that was much worse than Covid this time round. Think it helped that we had it in June badly then got jabbed in October.

Day 13 and feel like running at about 60%, even walking around the house leaves me short of breath, very fed up with it now and looking forward to doing nothing next week even though I have done pretty much nothing the last two weeks
@mespilus thanks! Pretty sure I’m now over the worst of it.
@snottyotter I know, thanks! The weird thing was just how I was feeling fine one minute (albeit a bit virusy), rapidly felt really quite ill and then just as quickly felt fine again.
