  • Chain pubs and golf clubs now stock microbrewed craft ale

You clearly know more about golf clubs than me, I haven’t been in once since I was a child!

  • Shit.

    Erm..

    Someone told me. That’s it.

  • Is it fuck. A cortado is an espresso topped up with warm milk, pretty much 50/50 milk to coffee ratio.

  • isn't that a macchiato?

  • Macchiato is less milk isn’t it? Translates from Italian for ‘stained’ - coffee stained with milk (implying just a tiny bit)

  • Correct. In Spanish that would be café manchado. Cortado has more milk than a manchado.

Yay for Barbour wearing equating to "looking normal".

Ah so like a short flat white

  • Yep like a short flat white but seems to take about a quarter of the time to make.
Flat whites are about making the people behind you in the queue late.

  • It seems to depend from barista to barista. It is literally a coffee “cut” with milk. The variations tend to be heated/steamed/textured milk.

Best served in a Gibraltar rocks glass. My glasses are 5oz glasses, given I tend to pull 35g double shots by your reckoning it’d need two double shots to get a 50/50 coffee/milk ratio - not a drink I would want. But ymmv

One of my favourite baristas just offered “coffee with milk” in various sizes and would then alter the milk preparation as he saw best to compliment the shots he was pulling and the size of beverage requested. This was because in his understanding the names of different coffees with milk were an utter mess with no consistency. I have seen people argue loudly about the inclusion or exclusion of chocolate in cappuccino, have been presented with filter coffee with milk when I asked for a flat white.

Does this imply that you have more than one in your employment?

  • I wish.

But in this case it means one of the baristas I preferred to buy drinks from. Though thankfully I was taught a great deal by a chap who was a “coffee consultant” when the Rapha store opened on Brewer St and I deploy these skills at home.

  • Haha, I've really wound you up haven't it?

  • This thread has just degenerated into quoting “my …”

Its entertaining to find others’ posts which fit in but not exactly a challenge.

  • degenerated

  • Calling @dancing james a degenerate is tantamount to flattery.
