  • Does anyone want a small green pomp? Nobody on facebook seems to.

  • I used to be on here many years ago but have just reregistered after about 10 years, so I'm kinda old but kinda new...actually I'm just kinda old! Anyway I've dug the old pomp out for turbo trainer use and then for some gravel type riding in the spring. All the bearings are foobared, but somehow the headset has worn a radial groove part way round the steerer tube. Prolly ok on the turbo but I'm worried it's a point of failure for proper riding. I'm about 86 pages into this thread, but impatience has the better of me, so currently what's the recommended fork upgrade. I'd prefer canti mounts and maybe steel over carbon. I spoke to on-one they don't have anything. If it gets too expensive I start to wonder about selling the bare frame and getting a steamroller f+f. Any thoughts? Thx K

  • A crosscheck fork could be good? Or I'm sure soma will have something

  • I reckon so! I have some full alu 4za forks and they've been totally fine. A-c seems the right ballpark for a pompino I think but not sure about the offset. It might be a bit larger than typical but I don't know without diving into Google

  • I've just had an evilbay bid on some NOS standard forks that I didn't see when I looked previously, which means that I have a bit of cash left over to put towards getting rid of my shitty rims and build my existing formula hubs up with archetypes or something a bit nicer than the 12mm wide Alex rims I have at the moment. Thanks for looking tho, I'll post up some pics once it's built up.

    Still fancy a steamroller tho....

  • Don't we all!

  • Mine

  • Intriguing mix of sensible and death trap.

  • It's the mullet of bike builds! Business down below, party up top

  • Tapered headtube?

  • Looks ace, it's the Mulo isn't it - how's the tyre clearance looking?

  • Mulo not pomp?

    ^you beat me to it!!

I think it looks smart, beauty in the eye of the beholder an all that. Would be cool SS with a disc front end, mini-v rear, gravel tyres. Ideal for where I am in Kent, lots of forest tracks. I think I'm too old ( or wise??) for fixed off road

  • it's the Mulo isn't it

Missed that totally, didn't even know it was a thing.

@peir0ltlr what fork/atc have you gone for? Is that an 1-1/8" or 1-1/5" integrated headset?

I'm into this but could see forks being a problem, bit taller than the frame is designed for but i guess this might work https://www.condorcycles.com/collections/forks/products/condor-cyclocross-pro-carbon-forks?variant=33712302794

Edit: just spotted it's a disc fork, still keen to know what it is

  • https://www.carbonda.com/accessory/fork-cx/90.html this is the one I've got for mine

  • Verrrry good.

  • What size tires have you got on there?
Looks pretty slick with the fenders, would probably build something quite similar

  • Just about to start building mine up, waiting for the forks to arrive...(old forks are damaged)
    Pomp V3 (I think)
    f&f L 120mm spacing

Wheels are noname hubs but I think maybe Novatec ( whatever on -one supplied back in the day on complete bikes) with Weinman DP 18 rims tyres are 30c schwalbe somethings. Just need to press in my new skf bearings

Brooks cambium C17 on Cinelli alloy seatpost

Cane creek 40 headset, 100mm stem Dead compact bars, Tektro road levers

    Tektro mini Vs

Shimano BbUN 55 with stronglight track cranks 170 mm be 48 tooth Gerhardt chainwheel...thinking of going to 44 tooth for the rolling Kent hills where I live now

WI 17 tooth freewheel one side, cheap pressed 17 fixed cog on t'other ( I'll order a nicer surly or something at some point)

I'm going to have a go at building my first set of wheels for this project when funds allow, I want some wider rims, current are only 12 mm, likely I'll get archetypes. Or maybe I'll get new wheels and keep these tor the turbo trainer.

The basis of the bike is my old fixed commuter, that I rode from the Kent side of Dartford to Woolwich every work day for a few years so I've owned it from new. This started off as replacing bearings as they are all fooked

Now I look at it I may need to go to powder coat first as the frames green but the forks are blue 🤔

    Photos will follow...

  • It took me long enough to build this up but I've been enjoying riding this the last few days. Needs a different saddle though. The Romin has been great on every other bike I've had it on but isn't doing me any favours on this for some reason! I also need to sort the front mudguard out and slap some flaps on the front and back.

  • Nice! Some good touches to this, stem and ratty omnoms particularly

  • Thanks! It's a bit of a hodge podge of parts (the headset is actually made up of at least 3 different headsets), mostly parts bin and bargains from "on here". The stem is an M_V special.

  • Nice! And even more kudos for riding the thing. How is it?

Weathers miserable here, I don’t have guards and it’s dark all the time! Ha

  • It's fun! The brake is a bit shit at the moment though, it was cheap af on eBay and I reckon the pads are contaminated. It'll be even better when it actually stops without tearing my knees apart and doesn't screech like fuck.
