  • I do 80% of my running on my treadmill at the moment just for efficiency mostly 30 mins steady straight after my cycle commute home3-4x per week just to keep up some consistent mileage without getting too tired. Then i do 1 hr inc some efforts and 90+mins steady both outdoors. I use it a lot pre season for bike/run bricks and intervals although i much prefer hill reps on an actual hill so always do those outside. The advice for treadmill running is set it on 1-2% incline to replicate flat road running. I need a mirror in front of me otherwise it feels weird and i find myself drifting side to side when i lose concentration. You'll definitely lose concentration at points on a treadmill for an hour it is boring and I'd struggle to do it without music on. It is much easier on your joints as the decks are usually sprung so shin splints are less likely compared to tarmac but any injuries caused by problems with form could be made worse due to the repetition. Use your regular running shoes and you could probably get away with a less cushioned or stiffer shoe with less repercussions than on the equivalent mileage outdoors. If you have any expensive carbon plated racey shoes the treadmill doesn't knock them out like the road as well. This is my life now not very exciting but still managing to get it done.

  • Woah that is quite the home gym! Wouldn't usually be my bag at all but staring down the barrel at a very early and very frosty run tomorrow and suddenly feeling rather jealous
