I got a booster a few weeks ago by going with my wife to have her flu jab. I was sitting there minding my own business, having decided not to try to blag one, but they wouldn't let me say no ...
Have you had your booster?
No, I'm not eligible yet
You're not 50? [Cheek!] Are you 50 by March?
No
Would you like it?
Well, yes, but I'm pretty sure I'm not eligible
Go and see the nurse. She'll sort you out. She'll find a way.
Sure enough ...
Are you sure you're not 50? [!!!]
Um ...
50 by March?
No, but, um, my mother's quite elderly
Do you live with her?
No, but ...
Are you her carer?
Er, no, um, I suppose I provide some care
That'll do. Do you know your NHS number?
They didn't ask, and I didn't say, that any care I offer my mother is by phone, from 400 miles away. (Though I have been to stay with her twice since getting the jab, and I didn't feel remotely guilty anyway.)
