  • Anyone using Supergliss 100k in their forks? Just got a bottle of it, but seems like it UK winter might be a bit cold for it - should I wait til the weather warms up again? I'm not due a lowers service for a good few more months yet anyway

  • I run it.

I had to go up about 10psi once using it

  • Because it moved more freely?

I'm running a Smashpot, so I'm wondering if it thickens up too much it might choke the HBO too much

  • Yeah I got a bit more sag and movement. Runs really nice. I've using it in low single digits and seems fine. Used it below that too and can't say I noticed, but wasn't pushing them.

  • Cool, I'll probably stop overthinking it and try it out then

  • I used 100k in my Lyrik with smashpot and it’s been fine. This will be the first winter with it but don’t expect there to be any issues.
I also use EXT EV68S fork lube on the stanchions and makes a notable difference. I paid something stupid like £20 for a tiny bottle. A bit of googling shows that the EXT lube is most likely just a slideway 68 lube that you can buy at about £12 per litre.
I know what I’m buying when the tiny bottle runs out.

  • I mean, Supergliss is a slideway oil too, so...

  • I know, aren’t most folk oils kinda slideways 🤷‍♀️

Ext would have you believe theirs is somehow magical

  • FEATURES

Special features for lubricating heavily loaded bodies.
    Excellent anti-wrinkle and anti-wear properties

Sounds like it's been formulated for my rapidly approaching mid-life crisis, that's for sure

  • EXT EV68S fork lube on the stanchions and makes a notable difference.

You mean literally on the outside?

Reminds me I should probably get my SID its first service. Also reminds me I should maybe drop the pressure since I never bottom it out since it's basically a 29er gravel bike...

  • It comes with a little plastic pick, you use it to pull the dust seals back a bit and squirt in a couple drops. It’s definitely good shit, just comically overpriced good shit.

  • Not sure if it's been posted here but Stanton bikes are in administration.

  • Bugger.

    But also, I have a collector's item!

    Nope, still bugger.

  • Reduces stiction or does it keep shit out too? It makes a noticeable difference? How much resistance do dust seals create? Why am I immediately thinking of OFC Monster hifi cables...

  • Maybe best to get a spare mech hanger.

  • Instead of the Syntace hi flex post, try the Niner RDO post. It's identical but often cheaper.

  • It helps reduce stiction. Tight dust seals is certainly a thing but its usually poorly looked after forks that lead to shitty feeling forks.
My forks feel perfectly fine after a fresh service since the foam rings have been freshly soaked in oil. But after a few weeks of riding, using something like the ext lube on the stanchions helps keep them feeling fresh.

Why am I immediately thinking of OFC Monster hifi cables...

I'm quite a cynical person and love to dismiss snake-oil pish but lubing fork stanchions is nothing new!

  • Was with a friend yesterday who loves his stanton. Sounds like the business/money partner has shafted Dan who was the bike person in the partnership.

  • I do wonder if lower leg fork oil spec is snake oil. My pikes are overdue a service and I think I'll be using the 0-30 car oil that's lurking in the garage.

  • I'd love to see the difference between the coefficient of friction of a snake-oil lubed seal and one that is just left within its normal lowers servicing schedule. I bet it can't be measured, let alone felt.

  • It's basically sex toy spec for gammons.

  • Put a couple drops of any fork oil on the stanchions of your fork and tell me it doesn’t feel smoother!

  • Is that not what the spongy bits under the seal are for?

  • In a garage after the bike has been sitting there for some (over 4 weeks in my case sad face) time giving the seals time to dry out, maaaaybe. But after a few minutes of offroad use when the oil has been sloshed around and you haven't neglected regular servicing? No way.

  • You’re all just jealous of my magic ext lube 😚
