  • Pair? Black or silver? Stays?

Still looking for a nice carbon fibre set to supply; looked into wooden ones but the prices were ridiculous, no fittings or drilling’s etc

  • Additionally just save those tubolito inner tubes for race or special summer days.

For maintenance and everyday ease of life just use a normal inner tube there is no difference in terms of speed and rolling resistance once you change over the conti tyres.

  • pair black, no stays needed.

  • Will have them on the 16th; got a bloody huge delivery of parts.

  • Decathlon scooter wheels ya or na for the foldable wheels? 100mm or 120mm?

  • they are bloody huge..

  • Go 120, seen it on a mate's bike with one of those lighting up when you roll thing, way way smoother and you look like a boss!!!

  • Going to put this for my gf bike as well as mine when i get the rear rack so it will provide better stability when rolling.

Only issue would be worrying about hitting my heel when riding :/

  • still rubs; what am i doing wrong?

  • So here's my very own Brompton. Never thought I'd get one but it really does make sense for the current commute. About 14km a day in total (2 to station, 5 to work, each way). So far so good - completed the commute twice.

Coming from disc brakes on my other bike, the brakes are "so-so" - I wonder if the standard pads are a bit "meh"?

Otherwise, just need to sort a bag (hopefully collecting one tonight) and a seat post insert, will get that organised next week.

Finally what chain lube are people using? Any links to Brompton top tips/post delivery checks are most welcome.

  • Standard pads are indeed meh, get some Kool-Stops

  • What's the top of your rack look like?

  • Just ride the current ones through winter and use them up.

Then change them over to swissstop bxp ones.

  • @amey, you potentially would need to bend the brake calliper up.

Also for aesthetics I would also remove the original stay as the rack would keep the mudguard in place safely.

  • your mudguard should be sitting here ... (see pic)

is it possible you need to move the mudguard position to somewhere where it is more comfortable?

mine comes after the rack tab, and just before the curved washer.

  • Get some Swiss stop bxp on there immediately!

Chain lube, just wipe down with a rag / gt85 on the rag

Pdi list; making a video next week on this. Bet the brake pads / left crank aren’t tight tho if from Brompton direct

  • Mudguard sitting on top of chainstay Bridge; correct.

Push under the mudguard but the brake to get that L bracket bent up.

Remove the last stay; cut the cut 1-2” shorter and loose the roller wheel.

Bolt the guard to the rack; bend the tab up prior to this

  • Another set of wheels built and out the door, sub 1kg this set.

Appreciate all the orders; it’s been a very busy week! Got two massive orders due in the next week or so, so keep an eye out on the ebay / TheBromptonMan.com for the new stuff.

Let me know if there’s something you need / can’t find!

  • After my foray into the world of Brompton via a couple of recent hires, I'm set on getting a p line when I've freed up some cash. Popped into Brompton Junction on the way home and had a look, also got my hands on a t line and kind of wish I hadn't 😂 quite a wondrous piece of kit, can't get over how light it is, and how smooth all the hinges and clamps are 😬🙈

  • Looks nice!

The only thing that wasn’t right on mine when new was the brake block positioning. Mine came with Swiss Stops - thought they were rather poor so changed to salmon Kool Stops. They are marginally better in the wet, but the more significant plus is that they don’t produce a black mess when wet. The brakes aren’t great in the wet and I suspect there is not much that can be done about it.

The other early changes I made were to swap the right hand pedal and hinge clamps for better quality ones (looks as if yours comes with a better RHS pedal anyway), and to add the tool kit and then stash a tube in the frame. The bike came with a Brompton rechargeable front light and bracket - I added a Bonty Flare to the seat post.

Bag: would recommend the Metro Messenger.

As for chain lube, I use Progold Extreme on the Brompton and the Surly, fairly clean, doesn’t hold on to grit, and holds up well in the wet.

  • Having a little look through the last year of this thread might cool your heels on the T line.

P line is still something of a sweet spot.

  • Ha, OK noted! Will catch up 😁

  • You'll both get used to it.

Found that as an issue with standard wheels and hey h0 (intended) I'm fine now.

  • Why is the 3rd wheel still there?
