  • The horizontal sliding drop outs of my 2016 Strggler are driving me nuts recently. Their design flaws have always been obvious to me, but I am recently hauling more weight around (panniers, 2 racks, bike seat + daughter, etc) so have to push a bit more than usual on the pedals, especially when starting from fully stopped, which causes the rear wheel to slip more than usual.

I am already using Hope mtb skewers, done up to the limit of what I can then re-open by hand. I was using Halo hex key skewers in the past, but I stopped after having snapped some 4-5 of them due to overtightening.

TL;DR, what are people doing to avoid wheel slip with their dropouts predating this update ?

  • absolutely this a million times. frankly, I bloody hate those dropouts; I had them changed for bogo vertical QR ones a while back!
Not a lot beats a shimano QR!
